They have a medical school. There are probably a few members of the medical school faculty that make that much. They are also D1, so your football coach and basketball coach are getting paid more.
Most definitely the football head coach, basketball head coach, and baseball manager.
Law school deans, deans of the medical school, some professors of finance and engineering. Probably not too many gender studies professors or even history professors.
If you want a world class medical school, one needs to pay competitive salaries. In the early 1970’s the dean of the medical school at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and the director of the state mental hospital in Jamestown both made more than the governor.
