“I will not have any newer than about 1980.”
Points, plugs, cap, rotor, condenser every 15k miles?
AND NO cupholder?

By 1980, cars already had electronic ignition. Heck, I put a "new" Mopar electronic distributor in my 1965 Chrysler 300. I did lose some low end power, though.
However, after 1974, you have to deal with catalytic converters. I think the sweet spot is after 1966 and before 1974. You can skip the points, and have better brakes. The only neweer feature I am hooked on is fuel injection. I don't miss monkleying with carburetors.
You can still buy add-on cupholders. Also, old cars can have a front bench seat. MUCH better than thpse space eating, access blocking middle consoles.
