As the world went into lockdown, Sweden opted for a different approach
Two weeks ago, I wrote about The Swedish experiment in The Spectator. As the world went into lockdown, Sweden opted for a different approach to tackling coronavirus: cities, schools and restaurants have remained open. This was judged by critics to be utterly foolish: it would allow the virus to spread much faster than elsewhere, we were told, leading to tens of thousands of deaths. Hospitals would become like warzones. As Sweden was two weeks behind the UK on the epidemic curve, most British experts said wed pay the price for our approach when we were at the peak. Come back in two weeks, I was told. Lets see what youre saying then. So here I am.
Im happy to say that those fears havent materialized. But the pressure on Sweden to change tack hasnt gone away. We havent U-turned. Were careful, staying inside a lot more. But schools and stores remain open. Unlike some countries on the continent, no one is asking for our papers when we move around in cities. The police dont stop us and ask why we are spending so much time outdoors: authorities rather encourage it. No one is prying in shopping baskets to make sure you only buy essentials.

If the highest death rates are considered “paying off”, yes that’s true.
Every poor SOB who dies will be blamed on Trump now anyway. The hell with all of this. Open up America. You scared? Stay home. Lets Roll.
Umm.....that would be New York State, Italy, Spain and New Jersey.
How is that super tight lockdown in New York working out?
Well, they DON’T HAVE the highest death rates, and they WILL HAVE the best economy.
The blond Swedish gals aint bad either. Just saying.
Sweden had a record level of deaths from the virus on Tuesday of 185.
Stockholm has 1.5 million people, Gothenberg about 600K, and Malmo 300K. Below that you’re talking cities of 150K or less.
Isnt NYC beating that total daily?
Too soon to say one way or the other.
But their healthcare system certainly hasn’t been overwhelmed.
So, it is looking good.
deaths per million are higher in Sweden than U.S.
Outside of NYC, New York State doesn’t even have one city that comes close to a million people.
NAME 2020 POPULATION
New York 8,601,186
Buffalo 252,555
Rochester 206,318
Yonkers 202,127
How much higher?
So did the locked up U.S.A.
New York State death per million of the population ;1,004
Sweden death per million of the population :175
And they don't have economy destroying lockdowns in Sweden.
The largest economy in the world is shut down. Parents cant work and take sick kids to the doctor. Young people cant get jobs. Just so old people can hide in their homes along side everyone else? How much BS is enough squirrel, aah Swirl? Youre an idiot.
Getta life. NYC aint shit. 320 minutes lion people live in th US. We can keep running and NYC can figure it out.
Sorry 320 million people. 48,000 dead according to the assholes.
