New York, New Jersey, Illinois, The People’s Republic of California....they all have taxes.

Let them bail out their own failed states.

Hey Pete, maybe you need to talk to your governor about letting people go back to work so you can get some tax revenue.

There is no doubt that NY and others are in serious trouble financially.

However, they were already in trouble BEFORE all of this happened and it has made it much worse than it was going to be.

Cuomo is looking to wipe the slate clean with federal money. Trump is saying we’ll give you the difference between where you were going to end up and where you are now.

For NY it was 7 billion in the hole, and it’s now like 16 billion. That’s a 9 billion gap and growing.

McConnell is saying you’re going to keep the 7 billion hole because you need to own THAT. You created that and it’s your problem. We’ll give you the difference but not the whole 16 billion.

I agree with King. New York State gives a lot more to the federal government than it takes in compared to other states. As long as the money is used to help fire fighters, police, hospital workers, public health workers etc. and other items related to this crisis, I have no problem with it. Not providing the proper funding to the states would create all sorts of economic and social problems that we don’t need now.

Maybe NY should quit spending money on illegals since NYC is a sanctuary city. NYS retirements are week above what other state retirements are and most retirees move to a southern state where taxes are lower, then screw up the politics in those states.

There is no upside to funding these failed states. What, so all of a sudden these states are going to turn red and vote for President Trump? Yeah, right. </sarc>

And they still want a bailout. Screw you.

There's always been a limitation on State budgets - States can't print their own money.

So if I overspend on anything - bullet trains, welfare, cushy pension plans for my buddies, designer ice cream, whatever - I can't just print up some more, like the Federal Government does.

OTOH, if I can convince Uncle Sugar to bail me out every time I screw up, it's almost like I CAN print my own money, shovel it out to buy perks or votes or whatever (even designer ice cream), without consequences.

Given that state A can rob the US treasury, what is state B's motivation to spend responsibly?
