My filipina wife, (who is only one-year younger than me, if you can believe that!), will be a public charge when she receives her SSN. When that happens, she’ll be immediately on ChampVa health insurance (at taxpayers expense). On top of that, in 5 years, she’ll get railroad retirement when she turns 62. Getting her paperwork has been going on for 3 years now. I really thought she would be denied. But now she finally has recieved her travel and work permits. Still waiting on the SSN. I do not have hope on the public charge rule for every one else. Even though it will effect us.
