LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - One of the first steps the state of Kentucky took when faced with the COVID-19 pandemic was canceling elective and non-emergency procedures at hospitals.

The move was done to try to limit the use of personal protective equipment, and reduce potential exposure to the virus for health care workers.

Since then, Kentucky’s health care system has been able to keep up with the number of COVID-19 cases, and starting next week some of those health care services will resume.

Lexington ER doctor Ryan Stanton a lot of those elective procedures, can't be put off too long, or they can become serious issues.

Wednesday, Governor Andy Bashear announced there will be a phased reopening, initially starting with diagnostic and radiology testing and then moving to other parts of health care.

"There are other pieces to this, from there to other phases and we are hoping they can potentially go, by weeks so weeks, if it takes a little bit longer it will but we are hoping by weeks," Gov. Beshear said. "And then we will be able to move from there into outpatient and ambulatory procedures and then eventually from there to an even broader reopening of elective procedures."

2 local hospitals started seeing same day surgery/procedures yesterday.

The big Kahuana HMO is getting ready. I have a telephone appt. with my podiatry surgeon next week to discuss my foot surgery that was postponed this March.

What is this PHASED crap? Thousands have already died waiting for “elective” procedures.

I just talked yesterday with my primary care doctor about a small problem I have.As we were wrapping things up I asked him if he has any sense of when his hospital (a major Boston hospital) will be getting back to normal.”I don’t have the first clue” was his answer.

I would think sentence two above would explain it.

I have an appointment Monday at Harborview in Seattle to meet with a vascular surgeon who will be repairing an aneurysm on my iliac artery.
Had similar surgery in 2016 in the same area, and they have been monitoring the current one since - when they get to be five centimeters, it’s time. 36 hour hospital stay was $228K.
We have to get screened for the chicom bioweapon before entering the hospital.

People are getting weary of losing that which they have forever taken for granted, their freedoms.

What is starting as a trickle will soon become a stream and then a torrent. We can only hope the people have learned something from this and can see thru what was nothing less then a last ditch attempt by the Left to transform America ala Barry Hussein Obama. In fact this may be what Hussein and the Dems had in mind when Her Panstuitedness won except she didn’t and the Left has now become desperate.

Iowa is also ending restriction on medical procedures.

The catch may be the ongoing shortage of PPE.

I had an appointment early this week to receive about a dozen injections. The only things different were the empty waiting room and the doctor wearing a cheesy cloth mask, while I showed up wearing an N100 respirator. Surely between massive increases in production and procurement, along with “flattening the curve”, we should have plenty of PPE by now. Pharmaceuticals could be a whole other issue, as I have heard of severe shortages of commonly used drugs due to manufacturing and supply chain interruptions. Healthcare needs to open up within their current capabilities, and people can decide just how “essential” their appointment is based on their own risk status. If your 85 year old parent lives with you, or you are high risk yourself, maybe put it off.

My hip has been going out since before this all started.

I just hope I can get everything taken care of before the autumn outbreak.

I take issue with this term “elective” surgery

Why the hell are you going under the knife if it’s voluntary?

This is never made any sense to me whatsoever
