Sorry, Guys. Mike Pence Is Not an Idiot for Not Wearing a Mask at the Mayo Clinic

Sorry guys. The idea that Vice President Mike Pence is an idiot for not wearing a mask during a public appearance at Mayo Clinic is ridiculous. Even though the staff, patients and visitors are wearing masks, it is not necessary for the vice president to do so during a public appearance under those conditions.

First, the president, vice president, and members of the White House staff are routinely tested. Pence and President Trump have disclosed negative tests on a number of occasions when questioned. Second, if you think regular staff and visitors to the White House are not routinely tested before coming in contact with Trump or Pence, you aren’t thinking.

Finally, most important, to prevent the transmission of disease between two people, you need a single barrier. This is the basis of what are called universal precautions in infection control. As a Registered Nurse, I wore gloves, a gown, and face protection if there was potential for me to come in contact with the blood of a patient. If a respiratory disease was suspected, I wore a mask, eye goggles, and gloves. So did every visitor to the patient.

The patient did not. In the case of some infections, there were negative pressure rooms to stop the spread of illness through the ventilation system. Some patients were placed on strict isolation, where caretakers and visitors are basically covered from head to toe with personal protective equipment, including hair coverings.

Visitors were observed putting the equipment on, and often staff helped them remove it correctly to avoid contamination in the process.

I love that he didn’t wear a mask. As this pandemic progresses, it’s becoming clear that regarding the true nature of covid, we’ve been had.

Much of what politicians do only involves what will win or lose them votes in the next election.

That photo will provide the media with ammo right thru the election and cost many votes. Regardless of whether or not it was medically okay.

Almost makes me wonder about what Pence was thinking. He had to know how bad it would look. Or else he is incredibly tone deaf.

Agree. And Pence is a very cautious person by nature, I suspect, and certainly would not have endangered anybody.

This whole “Covid” thing is such a press-manipulated hysteria that it could probably never have been imagined even in the most extreme dystopian novels.

People wearing N-95 masks while walking down the street alone or driving in their car alone is STUPID. It can also to dangerous.

Wearing an N95 mask is dangerous to some, especially someone with lung disease. It is harder to breath is the N95 mask if the mask has a tight fit. Someone with lung disease should not have any added restriction on their breathing that a tight N95 mask would add.

A properly fit tight N95 mask increases the wearer's "work of breathing." A loose N95 mask also is ridiculous. The whole point of an N95 mask is to filter the air you breath in order to protect you from airborne particles getting through into your nasal passages and into your lungs.

A regular surgical mask or cloth covering protects you from blasting your spit onto someone near you or if they are wearing a surgical mask, it will protect you from their spit.

Covid-19 is droplet(spit) spread. Not airborne. Covid spit can kill the vulnerable.

Be safe. Do no harm.

I read in another article that the Mayo Clinic has a policy requiring everyone to wear a mask. Pence should have been aware of that policy, or made aware of it onsite, and was not.

Does the clinic require people to bring their own mask or is there someone there handing them out? How’d Pence slip last that person?

And - it looks like they deferred to his position and didn’t tell him of the policy...I bet if someone had mentioned it to him, he would have had a mask on.
