Almost everywhere you turn today, politicians are telling the public to “get used to the new normal” after the pandemic. For some, this means public health precautions from social distancing to banning handshakes. Others have quickly added long standing dreams for everything from the guaranteed income advocated by Representative Ocasio Cortez, and also raised by House Speaker Pelosi, to mailed voting elections advocated by many Democrats.
The most chilling suggestion comes from politicians and academics who have called for the censorship of social media and the internet. The only thing spreading faster than the virus has been censorship and the calls for greater restrictions on free speech. The Atlantic published an article last week by Harvard Law School professor Jack Goldsmith and University of Arizona law professor Andrew Keane Woods calling for Chinese style censorship of the internet.
They declared that “in the great debate of the past two decades about freedom versus control of the network, China was largely right and the United States was largely wrong.”

Chinese professor Xu Zhangrun is one of many arrested after publishing criticism of President X on his handling of the crisis. The government just deemed such criticism to be fake news causing panic. It has censored accounts of its concealing the source of the initial outbreak, including censorship on such Chinese apps as WeChat.
Citizens now will have to decide, as Goldsmith and Woods insist, if “China was right.” For my part, I am hopeless in my desire for old fashioned free speech. You see, this “new normal” seems a lot like the old normal that the Framers changed with the First Amendment. China may be right for many in Congress and academia, but it remains on the wrong side of history. Not even a pandemic will change that.

Reminds me of a Spencer Tracy movie I saw once. It was about how a judge sided with evil in the name of “law” but eventually paid the consequences.

Exactly. Liberals demand conformance with their agenda. Not just conformance and acceptance, but you must "celebrate" every point on their agenda.
Dare to hold religious beliefs that don't align with their world-view? You and your business must be denigrated and ostracized at a minimum, sued out of business if possible.
Dare to hold an opinion on national sovereignty that precludes open borders? You *must* be a racist.
Dare to believe in simple heterosexual relationships? Or even that people's sex lives are part of their private lives and should, by definition remain private? You must be a homophobe.
Yes, the "liberals" certainly do "celebrate diversity" as long as your "diversity" completely and totally conforms to everything they believe in. If you dare to have your own opinions, own beliefs, that celebration of diversity on their part comes to a very sudden stop. It crashes hard up against their fascist tendencies to want to control every aspect of our lives.
The only thing worse than a Fascist is an “Anti-Fascist”.

Yeah, funny how those "anti fascist" types are so willing to adopt very fascist-like attitudes and techniques to "force" their anti-fascism beliefs on others. But you know, they've convinced themselves they're battling fascists, so the ends justifies any means - even becoming exactly what they claim to be against.

The problem comes in that they think anyone who dares oppose them must be a “fascist”.
And I always note why they use “Fascist” rather than “Nazi”. They refer to Hitler as a “Fascist”, even though it was Musolini who was the only real “fascist”.
Of course if they used the term “Nazi”, which stood for “National Socialist”, they would be admitting that Hitler was a fellow Socialist, can’t have that.
Inside every “liberal” is a Totalitarian screaming to get out.
