Every time an American looked at an item for where it was made in it came from China. Now China’s reliance making everything was being threatened by a change in leadership in America which was a major consumer of those products. When Americans hailed their leaders decision to make many of them in their country US. Their politburo worried.

Worse yet opponents to the Chinese regime in power had its citizens protesting its policies , as in Hong Kong, since that change in American leadership wave the American flag and present his name when doing so. All of which presented those in power the need to destroy that leader Donald Trump.

Would a runaway plague created by a nation which could threaten populations of an enemy cause them to react by demanding extreme restriction of movement by its population to prevent its spread ? Thus wind up fragmenting its economy and create defeat for that leader’s upcoming election.

....Well, somewhat a good idea, in my personal opinion. But how would that work out, given the cost of living in DC, here in modern times? You'd sort of be limiting national office to people who were rich enough to make it a short-term 'hobby'.

Both of us, being longtime DC area residents know that the hidden unidentified army of congressional staffers has grown enormously since the Kennedys came to town. That group is far larger than all the elected senators and Reps. So they would have to be reined in as well in any seasonal session changes.

In any case the DC 'residences' are chiefly for entertainment of constituents, lobbyists, big donors and such...as well as being investments.

A single large hotel, such as the Old Shoreham could be purchased from joint House & Senate for seasonal stays while Congress is in session. House representatives with their shorter terms, especially newly elected ones would welcome their reduced expenses. As proof, there are the perenial news items of new members bunking together, or staying in hotels. Make the states responsible for salaries and expenses, tax payers suddenly become eagle eyed when they're writing the checks in stead of Uncle Sugar.

As for the gray staffers, mandate public registries with listings full disclosures of prior employment, associations, finances, etc. full blast of sunshine on these manipulative ghosts that are the actual conduits of money, writers of legislation so that we never hear "we have to pass it to find out what's in it" again. Smoke. these vermin out

But...that's just my fantasy,

Great minds think alike! I was thinking the other day that we could build them a dormitory, with one to three bedroom apartments (in case some have kids) and let them live like military people or college students. I don't think it should necessarily be 'seasonal', though - that would mean that they also have the personal means to maintain a home in-state, and some may not.

No luxury, just decent living accommodation. We could even provide them a shuttle, so they wouldn't need to bring limos that would poison our environment :-)

Used seasonal to describe “the period during which Congress was in session”. Sessional doesn’t seem like a real word. LOL.

I understood what you meant. I still think it should be year-around.

But there are some issues with our ‘plans’.

Are we going to demand that every Senator and Congressman live in our ‘special housing’?

Because even if we ever got back to a truly honest and straightforward system - (if we ever had one to start with!) - occasionally a very wealthy person WILL be elected by The People.

Are we going to demand that those also live in our Shoreham/Dormitory housing, even if they have their own luxurious digs somewhere else in the District or surrounding environs?

This could become sticky :-) And I think the real solution to our national dilemma of corruption, greed, graft, etc., on the part of our elected officials, lies somewhere else...
