Opinions | Pardoning Flynn would have looked bad. Dropping the charges is far worse.

For months, President Trump has suggested that he might pardon retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI. But now Trump won’t have to worry about it: Attorney General William P. Barr filed a motion Thursday asking the federal court overseeing Flynn’s case to dismiss the charges.

If he is successful, Barr will save Trump from the political fallout of pardoning a former close aide, while still clearing Flynn. A pardon might have seemed to be the ultimate perversion of justice — but Barr’s maneuver is actually much, much worse.

Flynn lied to the FBI in early 2017 about a conversation he had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak when Flynn was a member of the Trump transition team. Flynn’s conversation involved mollifying Russia immediately after the Obama administration expelled 35 Russian spies and imposed sanctions as punishment for its interference in the 2016 election. When interviewed by the FBI about his conversation with Kislyak, Flynn lied, despite knowing — as he undoubtedly would, as the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency — that doing so was a crime.

At least this was labeled opinion and not news.

No need to add Barf Alert with that title.

The Deep State cretins face plant yet again.

Life is good!

Now, president Trump should restore General Flynn to his original post with his administration and then turn him loose.

The only thing that Trump or anyone associated with him that wouldn’t “look bad” to the WP would be to commit seppuku.

I like the suggestion to make him head of the FBI to clean it up.

Dropping the charges against General Flynn and, more importantly, surfacing the exculpatory information that was illegally denied to his defense, moves us a step closer to exposing the criminal actions of high-ranking officials in the Obama Administration. From the perspective of the Washington Post, that is very bad indeed.

I would rather he be appointed the equal of Beria and clean up the government via visits to Lubyanka.

While I am glad the nightmare for Flynn is over for now, as someone who want truth, I am disappointed. They should have moved it to the Supreme Court, wherein all evidence of entrapment, perjury, evidence manipulation, malicious prosecution, and threats upon family members, as well as Presidential spying by Obama could be placed in an open record.

Really, the Government dropping the case is nothing more than damage control for the FBI, DOJ, and chance to hide the crimes of Obama and his minions. Real justice would be those involved to be charged with obstruction of Justice and Sedition. IMHO.

Actually NOT dropping the charges would be a travesty of justice, something the Compost never really cared about.

RE: Flynn lied to the FBI in early 2017 about a conversation he had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak when Flynn was a member of the Trump transition team.

Alan Dershowitz was on to the FBI from the get go:

These corrupt FBI agents had recordings of the conversations. Then why did they ask Flynn whether he had those conversations? Obviously, not to learn whether he had them but, rather, to give him the opportunity to lie to federal agents so that they could squeeze him to provide damaging information against President Trump.

So the real question, which transcends the Flynn, the Manafort, and even the Trump investigations, is whether these tactics should be deemed acceptable to use in our justice system. Is it the proper role of law enforcement to conduct criminal morality tests to determine whether citizens will tell the truth or lie when given the opportunity to do either by FBI agents? Is it proper to target individuals for such tests for the purpose of pressuring them into becoming witnesses against the real target?

How would liberal Democrats react if those or similar prosecutorial tactics were being used against a president Hillary Clinton? I know the answer because I have seen how liberal Democrats reacted when President Bill Clinton was being investigated and impeached.

So back to the question of whether citizens who care about civil liberties should favor the tactics used by the FBI against Flynn. I believe the answer should be no. The function of law enforcement is to uncover past crimes, not to provide citizens the opportunity to commit new crimes by testing their veracity.

When questioning any suspect, officials should not ask questions whose answers they already know, for the sole purpose of seeing whether the suspect will lie. If they do ask such questions, untruthful answers should not be deemed “material” to the investigation, because the FBI already knew the truth.

The FBI should not discourage the suspect from having his lawyer present during the questioning, if a false answer will subject him to criminal liability.

EVERYTHING the FBI did stinks to high heavens. Those who perpetrated this travesty are the ones who need to be prosecuted and fired at the very least.

Lying to the FBI = Lying to Liars.

Lying to the FBI = Lying to Seditionists.

Lying to the FBI = Lying to Traitors.

The FBI to Flynn, either your Brains or your Signature will be on that Plea Agreement.

I ask again, what did Obama know and when did he know it?

What we need is the indictment of the corrupt FBI agents for doing this (and Obama, seems like he was in it up to his ears).

No, they just WISH Trump had pardoned him, to put heat on him. Barr did the right thing, because THERE WAS NO CRIME. It was Flynn’s JOB to speak to Kisliak. Trump would get smeared, even though he was pardoning a man who committed no crime. Liberals are just angry they can’t directly jump Trump for this.

I know Dershowitz doesn’t have the cleanest hands in the world, but I really appreciate him sticking his neck out, even if he probably WILL get a book out of it.
