Coronavirus outbreaks in nursing homes have been particularly deadly in California, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.
You could make a strong argument that the country’s deadly coronavirus problem is largely a nursing home problem, dangerous everywhere but far more prevalent in a half-dozen or so of the country’s more heavily and densely populated states. What’s more, many of these states enacted coronavirus response policies that likely put nursing and assisted-living home residents at higher risk for infection.

And yet the Governor of New York is lauded in the press, even as his own policies sent COVID patients...into nursing homes.
Up until last week, Cuomo also allowed positive staff to report to work.

Cuomo knew what he was doing. He was/is a one man death panel for old folks in NY. Get them numbers up to get more money and stuff from the feds and drive Trump’s economy down.

Well, they can’t blame Trump. Medicare regs were changed early on to allow facilities to refuse taking back WuFlu patients from hospitals.
Interesting that none of these articles mention the fact that nursing homes were protected from civil and criminal WuFlu liability in the new state budget. Albany did that for a reason. I’m thinking not a good one.
Has any other state in the union protected its nursing homes from both civil AND criminal liability?

In LaPlata MD. Charles County just south of DC we had 34 die in a adult care center, COVID-19. The staff was ordered NOT to wear masks so as not to frighten the residences
Call me a cynic, but I wouldn’t put it past the liberals to deliberately infect the nursing homes to get rid of older people who are a drain on the government. And also to eliminate the link to a free US.
Nursing homes are full of frail people with many medical issues. Thus, the national death count in nursing homes is skewing the risk of being infected by China virus.
I suspect when the dust settles we will find that 40% of the nationwide deaths were in nursing homes.
Many nursing home patients die each year from the flu and China virus is a particularly nasty flu.
Maybe the Public Health Departments could have done more to protect nursing home patients, but given the fact that prior administrations had outsourced PPE to China, until early April did we have enough PPE for extensive use by nursing home workers.
I am not excusing Cuomo by any means. Cuomo made the nursing home problem many times worse by ordering covid positive patients back to a nursing home instead of sending them to Javits Center.

But you can not send sick people to where the most vulnerable are living.
I have a relative in an ALF, and I’m thankful that they took this threat to their residents seriously from the beginning.
They didn’t need the government to tell them to take the measures that they could: no outside visitors, caregivers are screened daily for symptoms or possible contacts, meals are brought to the rooms, deliveries are placed outside for 24 hours etc.
It’s not rocket science to protect the people most vulnerable, and we don’t need to tell healthy young adults that they can’t go to work because of the CCP Virus.
The mistake, in Blue states, is relying on the government to figure it out for us, when what we should be doing is using common sense.
They need the rest home vote. 100% registration and vote by mail. The staff makes sure they all vote the “correct” way - even if the resident doesn’t know they are voting.
