Data released from the California Departments of Health and Social Services on Friday show that nursing home deaths represent almost half of the coronavirus fatalities in the state.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on the development:

There were at least 11,344 confirmed cases among staff and residents at California’s skilled nursing facilities and residential care facilities for elderly as of Thursday, according to state data. These cases account for 18.1 percent of the state’s total 62,512 cases.

Meanwhile, 1,276 staff and residents at such facilities have died of the disease, making up 49.4 percent of the state’s 2,585 deaths as of Thursday.

Yesterday, no, a month ago, President Trump should have announced that given the risk associated with nursing homes, he would use his powers like he did with ventilators, to make sure every nursing home in the country had a rapid test machine and the necessary tests and personnel to test everyone entering these facilties.

The governors are incompetent to begin with but even then they still couldn’t have gotten this done. I want minimal government but this is one time that only the federal government is the only one that could have gotten enough machines, tests, and personnel to get this done.

The elderly are scared and alone. It is not a way to die anywhere, never mind in a country representing the greatness of the United States.

My grandparents owned a nursing home. When I was a kid I
hung out there. The older people were nice, and it was
easy to like them.

Advance to 2020, and all of a sudden, we have ‘do not
resuscitate orders coming down from on high.

Folks, let’s review for a moment. 712 of the Diamond Princess passengers came down with COVID-19. Somewhere around 6-11 people died.

Generally, it isn’t young people on those cruises. There
are a lot of elderly people on them.

Why is it all of a sudden, 50% of the cases are the elderly?

Look, I realize that older people are more compromised for
various reason, not the least of which is age, but I don’t
think these numbers speak well of the care those people at
the nursing homes have gotten.

We have too many examples of people in their 90s surviving.

It’s my take that these people were not cared for properly.
