Mexico's president asked the United States for answers and an apology for the Obama-era gun-running operation known as "Fast and Furious." On Friday, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador called for an investigation into Operation Fast and Furious to prevent it from happening again.
"What seems serious to me is that a violation of our sovereignty was carried out, a secret operation, and that Mexicans were killed with these weapons," Lopez Obrador said during a press conference in Mexico City on Friday.
"How could this be? A government that invades in this way, that flagrantly violates sovereignty, international laws," Lopez Obrador continued. "We have to shine light on this so that an action of this type will never be carried out again."
"There is still time for the U.S. to apologize," the Mexican president stated.
He also said that his government would send a diplomatic note to Washington asking for information on the gun-running scheme. Mexico Foreign Affairs Minister Marcelo Ebrard confirmed the communication, and said he was sending a letter to the U.S. regarding Operation Fast and Furious.
This is just the prompt President Trump needs to open a full investigation.
He ought to do it.
YES!..LET JUSTICE PREVAIL!
bttt
Oddly Obredor is correct. I would suggest that Trump apologize for the acts of war that Obama committed against Mexico via illegal gun running. I would also suggest he offer compensation for this illegal act that killed Mexican citizens as soon as Obredor offers compensation for American citizens killed by the drug lords that seem to operate with impunity do to corruption in Mexico.
ps I grew up on the border, speak Spanish, I know the culture, and am married to a wonderful Mexican National now a USA citizen and engineer.
The average Mexican citizen is a hard working man or woman and most are very moral. They are the victims of a corrupt government and the cartels. Those people are desperate.
If one looks at the natural resources of Mexico relative to oil, minerals, coastal beaches, farm land, tropical jungles, deserts etc it has everything. Mexico should be a first world nation just like Texas. On a per capita basis Mexico has for more than Texas in natural wealth. But most sadly it has almost total corruption of government.
Look for CNN to come down hard on Lopez for daring to tarnish the legacy of lord 0bama. This could get interesting.
A little late Speedy.
OR;
Guns don't kill people, Obama giving guns to Mexicans kill people.
A new and interesting means of gun control.
I don’t think extraditing any USA official is a good idea, it would set a precedent and soon they would be asking for military personal, of which some may have taken part in this. This is the same reason we ignore the world court and now or soon to be all of the WORLD anything. WHO, UN, Paris...
“There is still time for the U.S. to apologize,” the Mexican president stated.
That’s hilarious...
The guns were sent to Mexico. So I guess half of the operation took place in Mexico.
Perhaps a whole lot of these weapons are showing up in crimes in Mexico I mean Holder has no idea where the hell they went!! Obammie said not a smidgon of wrong doing in his administration ZIP, NADA, NOTHING!!! LOL
Actually, didn’t that happen 5-10 years ago? Some EU or ME country was wanting some of our troops to try them for war-crimes?
Mexico’s kinda late to the party on this one. Maybe we should have advertised, “FREE TEQUILA”?
Many Americans would also love to see an investigation into the whole thing, but I’m not hopeful that we’ll ever see anything come of it.
The timing is a bit interesting.
...
Yes...likely carrot and stick approach by PDJT.
Title needs fixing.
Only if when convicted they are put in mexican prisons
We will get right on that after you deal with the drug cartels and wall.
The wording too. Sounds a lot like what Trump has said. "We must make sure this can never happen to a US president again."
