Happened in New Jersey too. A friend’s mom in a memory care facility there “somehow” got CoVid, was sent to the hospital, stayed there 4-5 days. Then they decided she was too far gone with kidney failure, so stopped treating her, and sent her back to her facility where she succumbed 8 or 9 days later. She was 85 and had suffered from dementia the last couple of years. This expedited things.

I am sorry about your mom, especially that you weren’t able to visit her. We’re in Montco. When I checked the state stats yesterday, 83% of our deaths were associated with care facilities. I agree that the state should not be locking us up like errant children. Sensible adults can determine what are reasonable precautions.

LeonardFMason, I am so sorry to hear about your mother.

My son-in-law's mother was in a nursing home in Montgomery County where they were also on lockdown. The home assured the family that they would be informed if there was Covid-19 at the home.

A phone call at 1 am 13 days ago saying she was sent to Abington Hospital for "low blood sugar" and "oh, we got the Covid test results back 2 days ago saying she is positive for Covid".

She died yesterday morning, cremated today.

The only "visitation" was 3 zoom meetings, 2 after she was on a respirator and virtually unresponsive.

She turned 70 in January.

What have we become as a society that we are allowing these elderly patients to die isolated from their families ... isolated from almost all human interaction. They are monitored from the nursing station.

Sorry for the loss of a 70(!) year old mother. I can’t help but feel that our Seniors are being let down in a massive way by Tom Wolf and his administration. What makes it worse is the, like a ghoul, exploitation of the dead and dying in these nursing homes to keep most of PA in lockdown.

2,529 out of the 3,707 deaths in PA have come from nursing home type facilities. The scandalous performance and TOTAL death figures are totally skewed because of the failure at nursing homes.

“A state senator from Franklin County has called for the immediate resignation of Pennsylvania Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine, saying her actions were a major factor in the large number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the state’s nursing homes.

Sen. Doug Mastriano, a first-term Republican representing Franklin, Adams and a part of York counties, said Levine has committed the equivalent of policy malpractice in her handling of the coronavirus pandemic, specifically in her handling of the virus’s spread through nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

Mastriano specifically targeted Levine for a policy which called for nursing home and long-term care patients who had been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 to be returned to their homes when they were ready for release from hospitals. Mastriano said that contributed to major outbreaks in numerous nursing homes around the state.

“Our secretary of health, Dr. Levine, decided that it would be good to allow COVID-positive patients to be returned to elder-care facitlies. And as a result of that, it broke out like fire,” Mastriano said during a rally with constituents at the base of the Capitol steps Monday.

“The very same people our secretary of health said were going to be vulnerable... It unleashed heck upon our dearly beloved fathers, mothers, grandparents, aunts and uncles. I think that’s unconscionable, unacceptable, and that secretary needs to be held accountable for that awful decision,” Mastriano said.

The senator also blasted Levine for what he called the department’s poor response to the outbreaks in homes once it had become apparent they were one of the epicenters of the problem in Pennsylvania.(BTW, Levine got her mother out of a nursing home as soon as things started going south. How convenient!)

To date, state figures show that nursing homes residents have accounted for 2,529 of the state’s 3,707 reported COVID-19 deaths. That is a pattern that has been echoed in most states across the country, however.

Yeah, and the ironic thing is that he is the head of the Pa. Dept of HEALTH!! This is a case where the lunatics are running the asylum!

Pray for Pennsylvania. We need all the prayers we can get!

The USS Comfort can sail on down the Delaware to take Pennsylvania patients, and the Jersey Turnpike is not far away, and from there the tunnels and the George Washington Bridge. But noooo! Cuomo finally stops murdering nursing home patients, and another leftard has to start. Hang them both upside down and beat them like pinyatas.

People have to stay home to “save lives,” while these slimeballs are deliberately jacking up their death tolls to get more federal money. Pinyatas. Let’s get multicultural. My keyboard doesn’t have the Spanish N, but it’s racist.

What a horrible story and a massive systematic failure. I have heard similar ones from other people around here. I am sorry for your family’s loss.
