Cottonwood Rodeo delays Shasta County's reopening plans, officials say

REDDING, Calif — Health officials say a rodeo held in Cottonwood on Sunday has jeopardized the county's efforts to reopen restaurants and businesses. The county sent a regional variance request to Governor Gavin Newsom's office on Friday asking to reopen dine-in restaurants, shopping malls, car washes and other facilities.

The Cottonwood Rodeo was held on Sunday and violated the state's order banning mass gatherings due to coronavirus concerns. County health officials say they had contacted the organizer in the days before the event and he refused to cancel.

KRCR reported on the event Sunday that had roughly 2,000 people in attendance and few were practicing social distancing or wearing masks. Officials say the governor has become aware of the Cottonwood Rodeo and the state has delayed the approval of the regional variance and has resulted in the Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control increasing enforcement of the order.

“I am not happy and the state isn’t happy and it’s impacting the approval of our variance,” Dr. Ramstrom said. “We’re all frustrated. It was inappropriate and it put the community at risk of disease transmission among attendees and the people they are in contact with, which could include vulnerable people who did not attend. It jeopardizes the ability for all Shasta County businesses to move forward into full Stage 2 opening, which delays our economic recovery.”

The county has condemned the gathering at the rodeo and officials are investigating the event.

The governor was upset that 2000 citizens disobeyed and he is now punishing Shasta County businesses by delaying the varience order.

Petty tyrant

The governor, at the earliest opportunity, SHALL end the state of emergency. There’s no option in California’s laws for a continued state of emergency absent the actual emergency. Local county health officials are the ones who need to approve and open the restaurants, malls, etc, and let the chips fall as they may in court.

And now would be a great time to codify this in a voter initiative giving a concurrence of both the elected sheriff and the elected county boards the sole power to shut down businesses and to be the ones to determine when they re-open.

A duty, not a right:

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Hold more Rodeo’s!!!!!

If we knuckle under we lose. Everyone should be required to re-watch Mel Gibson’s “Patriot!” It is not fiction and this is our Waterloo.

Oh, in case you missed the clues, Jesus is coming and day now.

Not many......

Slide east a county and you will find Modoc, which has already told Newsom to get bent and opened up a week ago or so.
