Fox News host Tucker Carlson chided Anthony Fauci, the country's leading virologist, on his show Tuesday night, taking aim at Fauci's track record throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
"A lot of wrong predictions have come out of Washington on the question of the coronavirus, and quite a few of them came directly from Dr. Fauci himself," Carlson said. "We are not singling him out or attacking him, we've certainly made a lot of wrong predictions on this show. But we're not in charge of the entire country."
Carlson played a clip from an interview that Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, did with CBS on March 8, in which Fauci said that Americans didn't need to be walking around outside with masks.
"Right now in the United States, people should not be walking around with masks," Fauci said in the interview.
The doctor's stance has since shifted. In front of the Senate Health Committee on Tuesday, Fauci said that he was glad to see people wearing masks.
Carlson likened people's faith in Fauci despite his change in view to religion.
“This might be painful for some people, it’s kind of like learning a religion is fake,” he said. “But this religion is fake! It shouldn’t be a religion in the first place. It’s supposed to be science. You are supposed to admit when you are wrong and you are supposed to be totally transparent with your reasoning.”
Carlson's criticisms of Fauci echoes criticism that the physician received during the hearing. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) expressed his respect for Fauci, but said that when it comes to COVID-19 and determining when states should begin to reopen, that he shouldn't be the "end all."
“So I think we ought to have a little bit of humility in our belief that we know what’s best for the economy,” Paul said. “I don’t think you’re the one person that gets to make a decision. We can listen to your advice, but there are people on the other side saying there’s not going to be a surge and that we can safely open the economy and the facts will bear this out.”
Fauci responded to the senator by saying he had “never made myself out to be the end all and only voice in this.”
“I'm a scientist, a physician and a public health official. I give advice according to the best scientific evidence,” Fauci said.
Carlson also pointed out that on Jan. 21 — a day after the first case of COVID-19 in the U.S. was reported — Fauci said that the virus was "not a major threat for the people of the United States." However, in the interview, Fauci also urged Americans to follow the guidance released by the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security.
“This is buffoon-level stuff at that point and we are not doing this to mock the guy,” Carlson continued, after playing an audio clip from April, in which Fauci said that people shouldn't shake hands anymore.
“I mean anyone who talks as much as Anthony Fauci does is apt to say some stupid things," he said.
In a following interview with conservative activist Ned Ryun, Carlson continued to talk about Fauci's missteps.
“The chief buffoon of the professional class,” Carlson said of Fauci, after Ryun called the physician the "face of this failed administrative state."
Fauci during his testimony to the Senate panel warned that states reopening their economies too quickly could produce disastrous results.
“There is a real risk that you will trigger an outbreak,” Fauci explained. He added that states that reopen their economies too fast might struggle with containing new outbreaks, only elongating the recovery time.
Reopening guidelines put forth by the White House say that a state should only begin to reopen after it has seen its daily number of new COVID-19 cases decline for 14 consecutive days. However, some states, such as Texas, have begun to reopen without meeting that benchmark.
His comments come as President Trump has been continuously adamant about returning America to work.
Some of the criticism directed at Fauci prompted Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.), the No. 3 Republican in the House, to defend the doctor on Twitter.
"Dr. Fauci is one of the finest public servants we have ever had. He is not a partisan," Cheney tweeted. "His only interest is saving lives. We need his expertise and his judgment to defeat this virus. All Americans should be thanking him. Every day."
Tucker has really grown on my lately.
I am not a scientist or anything like that, but I did not realize I was an expert. All I have to say about any given question with the virus is: It may work or it may not work.
His show is a MUST Watch.

Totally agree, and he is not who he has worked 40 years to elevate himself to be. More than a few REAL epidemiology virology experts can, and are expressing this view. Time for Fauci to be “retires” from the S.E.S. cabal of democrat machine apparatchiks.

I saw a “doctor” on CNN the other day who said that the US couldn’t reopen until a vaccine that can be taken orally or by patch, doesn’t need to be refrigerated, and over 7 BILLION doses are made, millions of people recruited, trained and fanned out worldwide to make sure that every single human being on earth is given the vaccine. Compared to that looniness, Fauci doesn’t seem so bad.
Fauci has made a lot of mistakes, and I think he and his media/dem acolytes are the primary obsticles to reopening the country. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is working on behalf of the democrats.

1. What Dr. Fauci was refering to was following the Guidelines for Opening Up America Again (PDF) that the President approved. He was talking about following those guidelines and not skipping steps, just like he said in the clip.
2. Turker says Fauci implied schools and colleges would repoen only if there was a cure or vaccine. Dr. Fauci did not say that, did not say we have to be shut down until there is a cure, and acknowledged that a vaccine might not happened.
3. Yes he warned if we reopened to fast things could get worse. Maybe that's why there are the guidelines.
4. "Fauci says children must stay home or countless will die, that's the message." So did Dr.Fauci say those words verbatim, or is that Tucker's interpretation of words, that he did not actually say?
5. He does know more about the science that most of us. It doesn't help that the left and right wing news are politicizing everything he says.
6. "There is a lot of evidence that america should cautiously reopen..." Am I the only one who heard Fauci refer to the guidelines to reopen? The ones the President approved? The ones that Democrat Govenors are stalling on implementing?
7. Fauci didn't like masks back in March. In April the Surgeon general put up a video showing how to make a improvised mask. Confusion and disagreement are normal in daily life, its not going to be less in a crisis when what is reliable information changes daily. Heaven forbid that even the experts might disagree from time to time.
It took four years to go from December 7 to D-day. Covid-19 has been in the U.S. for four months."

Tucker has been nailing it on his coverage of the virus and Obamagate. And I like that his show often looks at topics from different points of view, like having Aaron Mate’ on the other night to cover the Obamagate revelations. His show is absolutely a breath of fresh air as opposed to the “Deepstate Reckoning, Tik Tok blah blah blah” you get elsewhere.

Tucker Carlson is great.
This country developed atomic weapons and put a man on the moon with heroic Mahattan Project-type efforts.
So, will I say it’s impossible that they’ll come up with a vaccine? No.
But....the odds are really, really long. And the track record is not encouraging. Particularly Fauci’s personal track record (three decade EPIC FAIL on an HIV vaccine).
We have to be prepared to reopen without one and take our chances.
