There are still cases of each. Just a few, but those two viruses aren’t totally eradicated. They’re also stored in one American lab and one Russian lab. Imagine how awful it would be if someone got hold of a vial, and decided to unleash it. Either for some grand political purpose, or even just to make a point. It makes me shudder.
Polio and smallpox...those were eradicated by mass vaccination. Not the same as a proven “cure” once you get it. There are some antiviral treatments but there’s no sure-fire “cure” for a virus.
Garcetti said we must wait for a cure before we can end the shutdown. We’ll be waiting forever if that’s the case.
