I don’t know, it has been really cold where I live since the pandemic took hold. I’m sure it’s because of the reduced traffic.

No, The record-breaking cold weather was from a southward plunge of the jet stream in place to the east of the Rockies. That allowed a pipeline of cold air to dive southward from Canada into parts of the central and eastern United States.
