As Connecticut leaders this week unveiled plans to ramp up testing among the most vulnerable communities hit by COVID-19, the number of infections and deaths at senior care facilities continued to rise, data released by the state Thursday shows.
The data showed that as of Wednesday, 1,927 Connecticut nursing home patients died with coronavirus or whose death is suspected to be associated with the illness. Another 276 residents of assisted living facilities have died after falling ill with COVID-19, the data shows.
The data released Thursday marked the first time the governor’s office released the number of deaths at assisted living facilities, which differ from nursing homes in the level of care they provide senior residents.
Together, the deaths represent roughly 70 percent of the 3,125 COVID-19-related fatalities reported statewide as of Wednesday.
This could explain Ned Lamont’s unusually sane May 20 reopening.

Ill with Covid or tested positive for some sort of coronavirus?
I read somewhere recently that the average length of stay at a nursing home, before, well, the obvious is six months. If that is so, one would expect roughly 50% of the population there to have passed away in a three month period, though possibly even more during “flu season”.
Have these numbers we’ve been hearing from states for nursing home deaths been outside the norm? (Other than in states like NY where that population seems to have been particularly targeted for extermination.)
Speaking of senior care facilities, is the UN shut down?

Eldest lost his Asst. Manager’s job 7 weeks ago for going off on a worker who snuck a Test in, 3 days later was bragging about it, this is a Take out Pizza joint, he risked all workers and customers. Corp. fired him. Kept the unethical worker. Son is a Diabetic and makes him a prime target for the Chinese Virus and many of the employees are women and teens who have families. Will he get UE, he’s 49 and a Type 2 Diabetic, not many places will hire him, not done manual labor in 20 yrs most always been managerial.

Similar stats here in Alabama. We have just over 10,000 cases — of those 6800 are Healthcare workers, Long term care facility workers or Long term care facility residents.
A lot of those health care worker cases are no doubt due to the severe shortage of Chinese manufactured PPE when this all kicked off.

Nursing homes, when used for the old and infirm people, are usually the last stage before death. My grandmother was put in one and lived for 19 years, and her quality of life sucked. She outlived at least a dozen roommates. None of her children who lived near her wanted to put up with her because she wallowed in self pity, but still wanted things her way after her husband died suddenly.
I took my parents in, since I am single. I have had them for 8 years. My father just passed at 95 of a cerebral hemorrhage. Hardly suffered and it was quick. Ma is still alive at 91.
This is the same mini-me governor that rushed to the microphones to fear monger that a little baby died of the china virus, when in fact the baby had been suffocated by one of the parents.
