Sailors on sidelined carrier get virus for second time

WASHINGTON (AP) — Five sailors on the aircraft carrier sidelined in Guam due to a COVID-19 outbreak have tested positive for the virus for the second time and have been taken off the ship, according to the Navy.

The resurgence of the virus in the five sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt underscores the befuddling behavior of the highly contagious virus and raises questions about how troops that test positive can be reintegrated into the military, particularly on ships.

All five sailors had previously tested positive and had gone through at least two weeks of isolation. As part of the process, they all had to test negative twice in a row, with the tests separated by at least a day or two before they were allowed to go back to the ship.

There must be something wrong with these tests.

No, there’s something wrong with the idiots who are administering them too soon.

Unless this headline is exactly the result they were looking for...

Do we know the rate of false positive/negative test results?

5k sailors on the Roos. Assuming all tested, that’s less than 1%.

We were told that this wasn’t possible by the WHO.

It’s fascinating that we can’t use treatments like HCO without “proof” but they’re deciding public policy and lives on tests that appear to be horribly inaccurate.

And in some cases the infection can be at such a low level that it is not detected by the test. It’s not clear whether cases like these are actual relapses, or if people tested negative without really being completely clear of the virus.

Doesn't quite match the headline?

The run, run the sky is falling!

That’s my thoughts exactly. Poor accuracy on the tests.

I.m sure it would make Fauci smile.

But let's not be stupid. Only 5 tested positive. How many had it before?? Like 500...

Lab contaminated?? That would be my guess.

supposedly there are several strains of the virus- the one on west coast is supposed to be not as bad as east coast- and one in europe is worse than one from another country- who knows what the truth is-

They weren't in quarantine long enough or they gave the tests too soon ~ or both.

There were 1100 positive cases on the ship. So 5 cases is a fluke.

Why was that information made public? I don’t see the logic in publishing any information regarding the readiness or preparation for readiness of any military unit.

Those sailors should be temporarily on higher doses of Vitamin D3 and zinc for a month or so. Guarantee that most of them will feel a lot better.

Huh.
I wonder why this journalist didn’t mention that the virus can sometimes be detected more than a month after infection, instead of writing this up as if it could only be a reinfection or mutation

Wouldn’t that mean we are waiting for a vaccine that will never work? Might as well open up today if that is the case.

They should be put in New York nursing homes. That's the Cuomo way.

This should not be public information. The readiness of our military assets have no business being aired for all of our enemies to know. Make them find out about our weaknesses the old fashioned way - espionage!!
