A federal judge temporarily blocked Gov. Roy Cooper’s restrictions on religious services put in place in response to the coronavirus pandemic, in an order released Saturday.

Judge James C. Dever III set a hearing for May 29.

On Thursday two Baptist churches, a minister and a Christian revival group sued the governor in federal court, saying his executive order violates their First Amendment freedom of religion, The News & Observer reported.

As someone pointed out- OK to go wander around walmart which is packed like sardines, but not ok to attend church where people actually practice social distancing and take precautions?

If it’s good enough for walmart- it should be fine for churches- or any business

I still wonder if mosques are being forced to shut down and if the shut down orders are being enforced against them.

The Governors got to ease up. Or their citizens will rebel. It is already happening in Michigan.

Cripes the vaunted Dr. Fauci thinks Americans can take a risk to hook up for anonymous sex on Tinder.

But not to attend church?

“Hail Cooper! The fascist pig!”

The North Carolina State Constitution is very clear on the subject of religious liberty. Governor Cooper’s limiting the size of church services is completely illegal. Here’s Section 13 of the NC Constitution word for word:

“All persons have a natural and inalienable right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences, and no human authority shall, in any case whatever, control or interfere with the rights of conscience.”

If only the US Constitution were as clearly written. Perhaps it is time to amend the first amendment to the US Constitution in order to strengthen the protection of religious liberty nationally.

Had to click on your thread and then scroll down ten posts just to learn which state this occurred in--he's your governor, but he's a nonentity here in California. Here's one way to help out all of us:

Federal judge blocks Gov. Cooper’s restrictions on religious services [N.C.].

Better yet, use the article's actual headline, which included "NC". Democrats obfuscate, (Minority) Republicans reveal.

That is all.

“The Governors got to ease up. Or their citizens will rebel. It is already happening in Michigan.”

Cooper is trying everything to slow walk the re-open so he can question the “safety of having the RNC Convention in Charlotte this summer. He floated the idea this past week that it may not be “safe” to have the convention. North Carolina citizens are not protesting and pushing back enough. They are talking about not opening schools next fall and I tell all the young mothers I see that they need to push back hard!

exactly- he called it a ‘calculated risk’ i think- well- Church goers can calculate their own risks too by going to worship God and doing so far more safely than illicit sexual hookups
