Treasury to deliver millions of coronavirus relief payments by prepaid debit card

The Treasury Department said Monday that it is starting to deliver nearly 4 million coronavirus relief payments to taxpayers via prepaid debit card, rather than by paper check.

The announcement comes after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had indicated that the department planned to get some people their payments by sending them debit cards, in an effort to help get people their payments faster.

"Prepaid debit cards are secure, easy to use, and allow us to deliver Americans their money quickly,” Mnuchin said in a news release Monday. “Recipients can immediately activate and use the cards safely.”

Legislation President Trump signed in March directs Treasury and the IRS to send most Americans one-time payments of up to $1,200 per adult and $500 per child.

Treasury said Monday that it has already delivered more than 140 million payments. The first tranche of payments was sent via direct deposit, and subsequently the department started issuing paper checks to people who haven't provided the IRS with their bank account information.

Four cards to one apartment: Muhammad Khalid, K. Muhammid, Muhumit Khaelid and Mohammad Khalid all get money. Same terrorist.

Would the government rather he use his Arabic alphabet name? Uh, no.

Why not just send pallets of cash?

Obama and Hillary tried that underhanded dealing with foreign conspirators and he was impeached and removed and she was imprisoned. Both disgraced and US House went to GOP.

In another timeline somewhere. In ours, they arrogantly laugh at all of us for being so weak. And live high on the hog as multimillionaires accusing an innocent Trump of a wrong phone call.

That’s the point....they want you to spend it, not save it or use it to pay your bills.

Walmart gift cards. That’s what I had to send the FBI agent when he told me I was in big trouble for underpaying my taxes. Such a nice gentleman, with a lovely accent.

Cards will be more fraudulent. They will send a pin # and you can use it anywhere without showing ID.

At least with a check you need to show ID to cash it or deposit it.

Never seen such a cluster Fuark.

You don’t need to show ID to deposit a check and it doesn’t even have to be made out to the account holder. I’ve deposited checks literally made out to “You Evil B***ard” and nobody cares as long as there’s a scrawl on the back.

Also, unless the user is smart, the spending of the funds is going to be FAR more traceable, and anyone using the card to get cash will be on video.

It’s a debit card. ATM withdrawal. Sucks because there’s a limit on how much cash you can withdraw per day, but if you landlord isn’t online with taking payments...you have to tell him to wait or to set up a paypal accoount.

Push to a cashless society.

Most likely a Tressuary insider kick-back or lobbying .

Using Debit cards enriches the hosting processor (banks sponsoring cards) for every transaction made.

Government checks have to go into an account with that matches the name on the check.

All other checks your fine to deposit.
