Jocko, who’s going the talking at the beginning, is himself, a former SEAL.

The thing to keep in mind in all this is that Dakota Meyer chose to ignore a direct order during combat to go rescue his men.

He could only have two expectations.
1. Die in the effort.
2. Not die, and then be stood up before a courts martial and spend the rest of his life in prison for refusing a direct order in combat.

He did it anyway.

We all hope we have that strength in us when the time comes, but so few do.

Penny has rediscovered the deck. It is covered, and the entire length of the mobile home...about 50’ long x 6’ wide. Herbs, flowers, and sunshine. She found a bright sunny spot and stretched out.

I sat at the little table, read a very deep and detailed History book (about the “McCarthy Era” of the late 40’s), and ate vanilla ice cream.

The book has over 600 pages and another couple of hundred of notes and documents. It is formidable, but tells a story different from everything I have been taught.

Quite a revelation.

My foot is flaring up with plantar fascitis (very painful!) so I haven’t been hiking much.
