The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday warned the mayor of Los Angeles and the county’s top health officer that an extension of the coronavirus stay-at-home order may be unlawful.

The vague letter sent to Mayor Eric Garcetti and LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer did not spell out any specific violations, but noted concern about statements both had made publicly that restrictions may be prolonged without a vaccine.

“Reports of your recent public statements indicate that you suggested the possibility of long-term lockdown of the residents in the city and county of Los Angeles, regardless of the legal justification for such restrictions,” Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband wrote. “We remain concerned about what may be an arbitrary and heavy-handed approach to continuing stay-at-home requirements.”

Dreiband acknowledged that Garcetti had broad authority to protect residents during the pandemic.

Garcetti said the city would be guided by science and data rather than politics. He said the city’s 7-day average of deaths is holding and he feels confident about measures the city is taking.

“We are not guided by politics,” Garcetti said at a briefing. “There’s no games, there’s nothing else going on, and that’s the way we’re going to continue to safely open.”

Whatever...Mr. Mayor...

Talking about science...

Mr. Mayor, if medical experts had their way, City of L.A. will be under lockdown for at least one year...

Mayor Eric does what Director Ferrer tells him to do pretty much...

Thanks for the letter, DOJ...

I am sick and tired of listening to Mayor Eric and Director Ferrer...

Despite our jokes, LA is not a separate country. Somebody needs to start enforcing the Constitution there, with all the rights of interstate travel, commerce, the privileges and immuities of citizens, due process of law, Bill of Rights, all of it.

Just a glimpse of what to look forward to in a progressive libtard socialist utopia. Man, I for one, am excited as hell for it. /s

The opening they’ve provided for our side to launch a torpedo through the heart of the progressive movement is tantalizing, and they don’t even realize they’ve done it.

People will not stand to be locked out of their careers and livelyhoods without just reasons. They won’t stand for it much longer.

The stupid ass democrats all seem to think we’re going to blame Trump for all this while they purposely destroy our economy, when they couldn’t be more wrong about that.

Whoopie! Our Constitutional rights have been trampled into the ground, and we get a Strongly Worded Letter from Barr's Dept of Injustice.

If this doesn't work, Bagpipes Barr might submit them to the Comfy Chair.

Somebody needs to start enforcing the Constitution

I couldn't agree more.

When the governor of Alabama refused to abide by the decisions of the courts, President Kennedy federalized the state's National Guard.

We have out of control and tyrannical governors in Michigan, California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and elsewhere.

The President has a decision to make: either protect the Constitution, or let it burn.

President Trump said churches "should" open. I applaud him for that.

Now, he needs to enforce that decree with muscle.

The freedom to worship God is our most basic and precious right under the Constitution.

If the President's statement is nothing but words, our rights are permanently shredded, and there will be no going back to freedom.

I believe his hands are tied until after the election. If he used the national guard it could flip swing states to the left.
