I don’t know how Facebook operates. But with over 2 billion active accounts, I’m sure it takes a certain number of people to run the Facebook system.

Does Facebook have heavy advertising on site? Since Facebook is free for users to sign up, I always wonder how they can make money, as an ongoing business.

Yes, India is a big big big centre of computer programming (and programming jobs).
FB could do very well there!

Since people are SOCIAL creatures and do want to connect with friends and family from all over the world and disseminate and receive ALL KINDS of information they find useful or otherwise, Facebook provides a robust platform to meet all these needs!

And because there are hundreds of millions of such people around the world using their platform, ADVERTISERS who want to sell their products use Facebook to pitch their services and market their products.

THAT is the value Facebook adds.

I assume it’s all advertising revenue. I’ve also read that they sell your data. I’m not sure why someone would pay for my data, since I’m really a boring person.

Boise, not so much any more. We are having a “California Style” runup in real estate prices that has been going on for a few years now.

I would hate to be in commercial real estate when this is all over

with some facing pay cuts

Offset by zero commuting costs, parking fees, tolls, clothing needs, lunches etc. etc. ?

Actually...there is a lot of chatter about keeping the work from home format and dissing the traditional office worker.

The real question is will the hyper-vigilant employers demand more surveillance? And will the worker invite that into their home?

“...buy their own food will probably not make the best choices.”

Then maybe they should grow up. It isn’t any company’s responsibility to provide school breakfast and lunches to its employees.

But if they can work remotely from northern CA or Idaho or Nebraska, then many of them can also work remotely from India or the Philippines or Korea. Look for more outsourcing in the future. No need for H-1B visas if employees can do the work in their home countries.

With the new technology of tele-conferencing, I foresee many many companies heading this way, especially now with any success they are experiencing because of Covid. However, there may be unintended consequences that have yet to surface.

A pay cut combined with an opportunity to move away from that overpriced amoral swamp would be a great deal.

Companies like Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn and Google do not provide their employees with free food for altruistic reasons. Facebook told me the practice saves them money because every employee stays in the office and works through lunch and talks to other employees during the time when they would otherwise leave the office for over an hour and lose all that productivity.

I believe that if more companies did a cost-benefit analysis on how much work they lose by making employees go out to lunch they would see the genius in Facebook's model.

It's a common deal - it's why folks in Kalifornia and The Big Assholeer..Apple make higher wages - they live in high-cost of living areas...part of the "value" of am employee's work is directly tied to allowing the employee to be able to subsist.

NY State Teacher's salary: Avg Start $45K -- Avg Salary $80K

MS Teacher's salary: Avg Start $35K -- Avg Salary $43K

COLA of areas affect wages...
