The Durango Herald ^ | May 22, 2020 | Jonathan Romeo

Participants say government is overreaching, violating Constitution..

About 200 people gathered Friday evening in downtown Durango to protest public health orders

...

The organizer, La Plata County rancher John Avery .. decried actions by the government as a violation to the constitution.

“What have we become, to let ourselves be governed and treated like cowards?” Avery asked the crowd. “This is our time to be strong. Take a stand. Don’t be afraid. Don’t let fear rule your life.”

The rally .. gathered without masks and not social distancing. Many people had “Don’t Tread on Me” flags and Trump 2020 swag.

...

After Avery’s speech, the crowd walked north on Main Avenue. Cars honked horns, people shouted at the protesters, both in support and opposition.

Misti Witt .. protest the city of Durango’s requirement to wear face coverings in businesses and places that can’t maintain social distancing, which went intro effect Friday.

“But it’s not just about face masks .. it’s about taking away an individual’s right to chose what is best for themselves.”

Heath Rowe.. mask... not the government’s place to make it a requirement. And, .. people have been taking issue with a range of orders that have shut down the economy.

...

Clark McKay.. Why are they taking healthy people and restricting them from living a normal life? .. government is pushing us and pushing us. We’re definitely getting away from a free country.”

...

Cheryl Stevens .. there has been a “huge amount of fear mongering” surrounding the coronavirus.

“It’s Memorial Day weekend, and we’re standing for our country .. as a citizen of this country, I have the right to go where I want to go without having to wear a mask. ... I have that right to choose for myself.”

My question is, Where are the Congressmen, Senators, State Representatives, and other Republican politicians to support them? The only politician who seems to have our back is Donald Trump, but when every Republican official in American loathes and despises him as much as the democrats, it gets kind of hard.

Good point.

Aside from Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and a few house Republicans, the numbers are few.

Gadsden flag

The flag is named after American general and politician Christopher Gadsden, who designed it in 1775 during the American Revolution. It was used by the Continental Marines as an early motto flag

Here in Arizona when the Governor extended his Stay at Home order the County Supervisors and State Representatives got into action. The Republicans at the Legislature threatened to overturn it by vote which would have been a tremendous embarrassment. A few days later he flipped his order and pretty much completely opened up everything. There are good Republican leaders out there. :)

Good point. And I have another question, where are business leaders, CEO’s etc. applying pressure to open things back up, if for no other reason than to try to save their companies? It would be nice to expect them to speak up to defend freedom and free enterprise in general but I guess that’s in my dreams. Maybe stuff is going on behind the scenes we don’t see.

History will look at this short period at the end of this stupid virus has the Karen period

Liberal Karen’s are going to be up in arms trying to get everybody to wear masks that is the only visible sign to show that you are afraid of the virus in her listening to the government

I simply carry a bandanna around and tied around my neck and if one of the Karen says hey you got a put that on and I do but otherwise I do not

Businesses don’t give a crap they’re just doing with the government is telling them to do so they continue to operate

The bandanna is the symbol of the old west and the Cowboys and I think it’s the perfect apropos answer to the Karen’s

As of Friday, La Plata County was reporting 76 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and zero deaths because of the virus. One person who died had tested positive for the disease, but died of congestive heart failure.

Imagine that!

This person had the virus, but they recorded that he had died of congestive heart failure.

The coroner will probably lose his license.

Some will get sick, some will die, some won’t.

But I have to say it’s dispicable that those who choose to protect themselves are being mocked and made fun of here on FR. that needs to stop.

Can there be a Chamber of Commerce if there is no more commerce?

Why is it that when things are “opening up,” more restrictions keep popping up? Costco being exhibit A.

A drunk who died of alcohol poisoning had his death certificate re-classified in Denver by democrat beaurocrazzies .. The Montezuma County Coroner’s Office disputed the (democrat run) state’s claim , saying the person actually died of alcohol poisoning. .

County Coroner George Deavers and a pathologist determined the cause of death was ethanol toxicity. The person’s blood-alcohol content was 0.55.. a BAC of 0.3 is considered lethal.

COVID was listed on the death certificate to get extra federal Medicare money.. and political scare points..
