No coronavirus catastrophes following reopenings of Georgia, Florida and Texas

Three large Southern states that moved aggressively to reopen amid the coronavirus crisis have seen new cases and deaths largely hold steady since then — despite several controversies over some of their data.

In Georgia, where Gov. Brian Kemp bucked the White House and local officials to lift a stay-at-home order on April 24, the state reported 862 cases on Thursday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

That was less than the 946 new cases counted on Wednesday, but helped spur a slight rise in a seven-day rolling average that’s been basically trending downward since the start of the Peach State’s reopening.

Deaths, meanwhile, rose by 78, marking the most since the same number was reached on April 27 and bringing the total toll to 1,775.

Georgia set its single-day record for coronavirus deaths — 94 — before the lockdown, on April 20.

We may have to wait several weeks to observe the results of the ending of the lockdown.

"We may have to wait several weeks to observe the results of the ending of the lockdown."

That's true. If the lock down caused it to die out enough, t will take some time to restart. Just/ like in the beginning. Case, case, case, cluster, cluster, boom.

Several points...

And when will California reopen?

That's up to California. And probably depends on how many flubros are in that state irresponsibly spreading it around.

By November 3, if the Blue State Governors™ get their way.

“Some Equatorial countries have had a tough time of it, implying summer may not have as much effect on stopping the virus as hoped.”

Exactly, I’m in contact with a friend in Honduras and they’re having a hell of a time there. Heat and sunshine does not seem to be preventing spread. One of the problems seems to be high dependence on various versions of mass transport in their cities.

The incubation period should give us a good idea...so say two weeks.

Trying to prognosticate the probable course of the disease is like trying to drive in reverse using only the rear-view mirrors for guidance, without casting a glance back over your shoulder.

There is no reliable safe way to operate a vehicle in reverse gear. It is taking a chance every time because of the number of blind spots in your field of vision.

Maybe New York got a more concentrated dose since they’re the financial center of the United States...

There are three reasons NY’s concentration is so high.
Trains,
Subways,
and buses.

That’s it.
Oops, I did forget one.
And elevators.

No we don't.
Like clockwork, you paid trolls keep posting the same nonsense on every single thread about the great results after reopening in Georgia. Go troll somewhere else.

High rise buildings (residential or commercial) are another big issue, and with central A/C running during the hot summer days I would expect urban areas to continue to be hardest hit for the next few months.

Knock it off. There is no irresponsible spread of the virus.

Incubation period mean is 5.1 days with 99% of cases noted between 2,8 and 7.4 days. The two week period is well debunked.
