GROWING DEEP AND STRONG
One day my mother and I were working together in the garden where we were transplanting plants for the third time. Grown from seed in a small container, the plants had been transferred to a larger container; then transplanted into the garden. Now, because I was moving, we were transplanting them once again. Inexperienced as a gardener, I turned to my green-thumbed mother. "Isnt this bad for them?" I asked, as we dug them up and shook the dirt from the roots. "Wont it hurt these plants, being uprooted and transplanted so many times?" "Oh" my mother replied, "Transplanting doesnt hurt them. In fact, its good for the ones that survive. Thats how their roots grow strong. Their roots will grow deep, and they will make strong plants".
Often, Ive felt like those small plants uprooted and turned upside down. Sometimes Ive endured the change willingly, sometimes reluctantly, but usually my reaction has been a combination. Wont this be hard on me? I ask. Wouldnt things be better if things remained the same? Thats when I remember my mothers words: Thats how the roots grow deep and strong.

May 24Talking Tables
Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.
Acts 2:46Loneliness is one of the greatest threats to our sense of well-being, affecting our health through our behaviors on social media, food consumption, and the like. One study suggests that nearly two-thirds of all peopleregardless of age or genderfeel lonely at least some of the time. One British supermarket has created talking tables in their store cafés as a way to foster connection between people. Those looking for human interaction simply seat themselves at a table designated for that purpose, joining others or indicating a desire to be joined. Conversation ensues, providing a sense of connection and community.
The people of the early church were committed to shared connection too. Without each other, they would likely have felt very alone in the practice of their faith, which was still new to the world. Not only did they [devote] themselves to the apostles teaching to learn what following Jesus meant, they also [met] together in the temple courts and broke bread in their homes for mutual encouragement and fellowship (Acts 2:42, 46).
We need human connection; God designed us that way! Painful seasons of loneliness point to that need. Like the people of the early church, its important for us to engage in the human companionship our well-being requires and to offer it to those around us who also need it.

Reflect & Pray
How can you intentionally connect with someone today? How might you be overlooking opportunities for friendship?
Help us, God, to seek connection for our sake and that of others!

Working from home is working out quite well, thanks. Once the agencies I work for figure out how much money they'll save by letting their high-rent leases expire, it will probably be the norm.
The family is doing well, thanks. How are things with you and yours?

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS AND OUR BELOVED NATION!
Amazing Grace (Click)
By John Newton
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures; He will my Shield and Portion be, As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine; But God, Who called me here below, Will be forever mine.
When weve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, Weve no less days to sing Gods praise Than when wed first begun.

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR OUR AMERICAN HEROES AND FOR OUR BELOVED NATION!

Gen. George Washington and his Troops Marching To Valley Forge December 1777 |
GEN. GEORGE WASHINGTON THE PRAYER AT VALLEY FORGE
"Let Tyrants Shake Their Iron Rod" William Billings Mixed District Choir, Fairfax, Virginia (Click)
IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered his prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His Manifold Blessings upon the new Nation.

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.
AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and gather them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

HEAVENLY FATHER, Lord of the Nations, unto Your Divine Mercy we commend the souls of these valiant men and women who have fallen in the service of our Beloved Nation and in defense of the Freedoms we hold dear. We pray that You gather them in Your Loving Embrace, that You cause Your Countenance to shine upon them, and that You vouchsafe their souls to dwell eternally in Your Divine Presence. Through Jesus Christ Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

Two additional stanzas for John Newton’s beloved hymn:
How sweet the sound in times of grief
the song of grace can be!
For God has promised good to us
in loves eternity.
And though our hearts cry out for those
whose days on earth are done,
Well meet where Gods eternal praise
Has always just begun.
Found them somewhere 13 1/2 years ago...didn’t copy the url.

O God of spirits and of all flesh,
Who hast trampled down death,
and overthrown the devil,
and given life to Thy world!
Do Thou Thyself, O Lord,
give rest to the souls of Thy departed servants
... especially our forefathers, fathers,
brethren and sisters,
here and everywhere laid to rest;
officers and soldiers who have laid down their lives for faith
and homeland:
Give rest to all of them in a place of light,
in a place of repose,
whence all sickness, sorrow,
and sighing are fled away.
Pardon every sin committed by them in word,
deed, and thought,
in that Thou art a good God,
the Lover of Mankind;
for there is no one that liveth and sinneth not;
for Thou alone art without sin,
Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
and Thy word is truth.
For Thou art the resurrection and the life
and the repose of Thy departed servants O Christ our God,
and unto Thee do we send up glory,
together with Thine unoriginate Father,
and Thy most holy, good,
and life-creating Spirit,
now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

No, that is the prayer used in the Orthodox Church at every Memorial Service—and those are served at the 40 day, 6 month, and yearly anniversary of departing this life.
In many Orthodox parishes it is heard almost every Sunday because there are one or more Memorials requested for the various anniversaries.
The augmentation of “officer and soldiers who have laid down their lives for homeland and faith” isn’t mine either. Found that on an Orthodox or Byzantine Catholic web site five years ago.
