More than 160 South Koreans tested positive a second time for the novel coronavirus last month, weeks after being discharged from medical supervision. Some symptom-free Americans have been barred from donating their blood plasma to help treat others because they are still testing positive.
The revelations are generating concern that people who have had Covid-19 are getting infected anew—something scientists say current evidence doesn’t support.
Here is what we know, and don’t know, about the possibility of becoming sick with the virus more than once.
I recently recovered from Covid-19. Does that mean I can’t get it again? Most scientists say that people who have had Covid-19 gain some immunity to the virus that causes it. What they don’t know is whether that protection lasts a few months, a few years or a lifetime.
What factors affect immunity? The immune system wards off infections by producing antibodies that fight invaders. A range of hereditary and environmental factors, including diet and sleep patterns, typically affect the strength and longevity of those defenses.
Immunity also depends on the pathogen. For example, infection by the virus that causes measles confers lifelong immunity. Others, like the influenza virus, can mutate so rapidly that protective antibodies might not recognize them during a reinfection.
The novel coronavirus mutates more slowly than the influenza virus. That gives researchers hope that any natural immunity, or vaccine, would offer more lasting protection. Even if someone gets sick again, researchers believe a second infection might be milder than the first.

Some of the tests will indicate a positive after the virus has died off. It appears to be due to fragments of virus particles remaining in the serum.
We have some pretty poor reporting going on from the main stream press, they are worse than the scams you get spammed on line about.
People are confused what positive means with different types of tests.
People shedding dead viruses were giving false positives weeks after they recovered.
You can test positive many times even though you do not have the disease. Lots of tests have been flawed.
Unlikely because given the number of cases in New York people getting it twice would probably have been observed numerous times and it wouldn’t be a question, it would be established.
I suffered through a 6 week long bout of shingles several years ago, thank God it was mild. Even so, I would not like a repeat of it. I would be concerned that the CCP-Coronavirus may go dormant, like the chicken pox, only to re-appear at a much later date, with much nastier symptoms, like shingles does.
I’ve also heard that after being declared CCP-Coronavirus free, sometimes the tests show a ‘false positive’. It doesn’t appear that one can get the virus a second time, at least not so soon after being rid of it.

Shingles came to mind when I heard reports of children who had Wuhan and recovered, later came up with strange symptoms like rashes.

If you read the article it stated it wasn’t known if they actually got it twice or it was from the first (only) time.
It wasn’t clear but the headlines were sensational and did not reflect what was actually reported.

I think we are still fine tuning the testing aspect.
Makes sense. Hopefully our scientists from CDC are gathering data from that ship and we are able to learn a lot about the virus. Hopefully we are able to get immunity and we are good to go!

Well, somewhere they tested a goat and a papaya fruit, turned em in, and they came back “positive”.
So yeah, one could probbly get the demoVirus twice, if needed. /s
