The article was intended to argue that we’re cruelly hypocritical for demanding face masks but rejecting niqabs. However, the reality is that the mask has become a similar symbol of obedience to strict social rules.
And the people screaming at and attacking the person not wearing the mask are in the same vein as those who scream, beat and eventually kill the woman for not covering up. In both cases, it is equated with public safety and public good.
Furthermore, in both cases, it doesn’t matter if you obey the mandate or not in private as long as you publicly conform.
