MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The FBI has been called to investigate after a man died Monday night in south Minneapolis after an encounter with police.

In a statement early Tuesday, police described what happened as a medical incident. However, a video posted on social media shows an officer kneeing a man’s neck to the ground for several minutes. Before he goes unconscious, the man, who is black, repeatedly tells officers he can’t breathe.

At a press conference Tuesday morning, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey alluded to the graphic footage, saying: “I believe what I saw, and what I saw was wrong at every level.”

Stop being an idiot.

Cops were completely in the wrong here.

If you believe otherwise, you are part of the problem.

Yes they did, these morons trying to excuse the cops or blame the suspect are just that, MORONS, and part of the damned problem.

The man was cuffed and restrained long before, they kneeled on a restrained mans neck until he was unconscious and then kept kneeling on it for several more minutes.

Don’t give me the “don’t resist” line.... He was handcuffed, he was on the ground, and there were 4 of you.... and that’s what you did... This was not law enforcement... this was inexcusable by any standard.

This isn’t some case of spin, this was wrong, on every level wrong.

Here’s what I see which is VERY typical in many areas.

1 out of shape white cop standing there.
1 mini man white cop with not one discernable muscle.

A good sized physically strong (albeit not healthy) black guy.
This is what happens when the criminals are stronger or in better shape than the cops.

So many cops don’t even try to stay in shape and their continuing education, training and fit tests requirements are negligible.

They learn a few tricks in the academy to subdue someone stronger and then they get a stick and a gun and they let that take place of keeping themselves at a physical level necessary to do their job.

So then they get legit scared when they have a resistor that they know is stronger.
They were scared to let him up because they were afraid he’d overpower them. It’s easier to use a trick they learned than to actually stay fit enough to be confident they can get him up and in the car without getting hurt themselves.

Which is wrong within itself.
But even after a couple of minutes, this even exceeds THAT.

I’m open to being corrected on my initial assessment here.

I am not a Cop.

There are BAD Cops.

There are Bad People.

I believe, unlike all the keyboard activists on FR, that resisting arrest is ALWAYS a bad idea. What would have happened if this gentlemen simply listened to the directions he was given? What was the expectation he had when he started resisting arrest?

NEVER start a fire in conditions you can’t control. This man, by resisting arrest, started a “fire” in conditions he couldn’t control.

Did he DESERVE to die? Of course not.

As for the Cops involved: They will be held to account. There lives, reputations, and finances are ruined forever. If found guilty they will go to jail. So be it.

Will you being flying out to Minneapolis to riot with BLM against “these goon cops”.

You do what you need to do in order to gain compliance. All necessary force. But never leave someone on their stomach. Sit them up as soon as they are cuffed. And never ever apply pressure to their chest if they are on the ground cuffed.

Every department has their own procedures regarding use of force, but this is all pretty standard. Looks like this cop froze in that position and was too keen on what was happening around him rather than the actual detainee.

Sarcasm. See my posts 16 and 24.

The phrase “Stop resisting” is as much a mockery of brutal, overbearing police as “Respect muh authorituh.”

Too bad cops still use it.

my apologies...

Unfortunately too many people on this site are very seriously trying to make that argument and justification for what these officers did.

And yet that seems to be the current state of police training. Draw down right on grandma while the other officer hand cuffs her. No finger on the trigger, but still aiming right at her back. On Live PD show, I have even seen cops sweep other cops right in the back as the other cop goes in to cuff the suspect.

I can’t stand this idiocy. I have no clue why they don’t train to hold their guns at low ready instead of aiming right at people they have no intention of shooting at the time. It is disgusting.

What is very clear, is that none of them have been trained in firearm safety. Can you imagine hunting with one of these fools?!

My fear is that THIS IS the firearms safety they are being trained in. Live PD follows several different counties nationwide, and this practice of aiming at the suspects while arresting them or detaining them is consistent among the counties. The sad thing is, this is their training.

Who would train to aim at people you don’t plan to shoot? It is insane. I don’t begrudge the police much as dangerous as their occupation is in many big cities and crime ridden counties, but it has gotten to where “officer safety” is primary, even if it means accidentally shooting people. It is insane. It is not how you handle a gun.
