Biden to American Families: Don't Earn More Than $125,000 Per Year

They work hard, but they are not rich.

He is a local police officer in a suburb of a midwestern city. His annual salary is $67,620 -- exactly the national average for his job, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

She is a registered nurse at the local Catholic hospital. Since their youngest joined his siblings in high school last fall, she has resumed working full time.

Her annual salary is now $77,460 -- also exactly the national average for her job.

Where does their money go?

The biggest chunk goes to the government. They pay federal income taxes, federal payroll taxes, state income taxes and local property taxes. They also pay sales taxes on almost everything they buy.

What do they do with the money they make that the government doesn't take?

Well, they pay a mortgage on a modest three-bedroom home and make monthly payments on two cars and two insurance plans -- one for their home and one for their two cars.

They also pay tuition at the local Catholic high school that their three kids attend because they want their children in a school that shares their values -- and does not let transgender "girls" use the ladies' restroom.

After that, there is just enough left for groceries and maybe an occasional trip to see the local Major League Baseball team play -- when Major League Baseball is actually in season.

And these are the sort of people that former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders believe the government should treat as being on the upper end of the income scale.

On March 15, the day Biden had his last debate with Sanders, Biden announced he was adopting Sanders' college-for-all plan.

"Bernie has put forward a plan that would make public colleges and universities free for families whose income is below $125,000," Biden said in a tweet that day. "It's a good idea, and after consideration, I am proud to add it to my platform."

A page on Biden's website linked to a page on Sanders' website that explained the proposal.

"This legislation would provide at least $41 billion per year to states and tribes to eliminate undergraduate tuition and fees at public colleges and universities and institutions of higher education controlled by tribes," said a fact sheet attached to Sanders' webpage.

"Under this legislation, students from any family making $125,000 or less -- about 80% of our population -- would be able to attend a public four-year college or university, or four-year tribal college or university, tuition- and fee-free," said the fact sheet.

What happens if a family makes $126,000 per year? They are too rich.

So, the hypothetical policeman and nurse, who both earn what the Bureau of Labor Statistics says is the average annual wage for their job, are too wealthy to qualify for the Biden-Sanders college-for-all plan.

But it's not just them.

The data that the Census Bureau has published on the incomes of American households indicates there are certain obvious patterns to earnings in America.

For example, families with a husband and wife who both work tend to earn more than families headed by a person with no spouse.

In 2018, according to the Census Bureau's income table F-10, families headed by a female who had no spouse present but had at least one child under 18 had a median income of $32,960. Families headed by a male who had no spouse present but had at least one child under 18 had a median income of $48,259.

Married-couple families with at least one child under 18 had a median income of $101,285.

But, according to the Census Bureau's Table F-16, a married-couple family in which both parents worked full time and there was at least one child under 18 had a median income in 2017 of $129,871.

There were 9,463,000 families that fit that profile in 2017, according to the Census Bureau.

Under the Biden-Sanders college-for-all plan, more than half of those married-couple families with children, in which both spouses were working full time -- where the median annual income is $129,871 -- would be too "rich" to qualify for free tuition.

Under the Biden-Sanders college-for-all plan, that family where the father is a police officer, the mother is a nurse and the family income is $145,080 per year is too rich to qualify for free tuition at the state university.

Their job in Biden's America -- as they work full time to raise and educate their own family-- will be to pay the taxes needed to send someone else's kid to college for free.

That’s a great way to lose votes in the upper middle class.

Well it’s brilliant! Get Americans to demand a pay cut. Want your kid to go to college? Set a good example and quit working! We don’t need no stinking Communist infiltrators or terrorist saboteurs to destroy America. We can do it ourselves!

They no longer pretend to seek equal opportunity.
They only want equal outcomes.

You can only get equal outcomes through force.

This policy is really hideous, just more socialism and pitting the lazy against the productive.

Again the government incentives certain conduct which will do no good for the country. Do not work hard and succeed with free tuition.

The first question I'm going to ask God when I get to Heaven is, "Why did You make us with a predilection towards believing b.s. and b.s.ers?"

Actually, that'll be my second question. My first question will be, "Where's the men's room?" It seems like the first thing I need to do whenever I go somewhere is go wee.

So the author’s point is Biden’s giveaway is not fair and we need even more socialism to rectify the problem.

Obviously government needs to provide free college to even more people. :-)

Here’s my questions:

Why did you give cow four teats when they typically have 1 calf or rarely have 2?

Why did you give goats 2 teats when they typically have twins but often times have 3 or 4 kids?

I only ask this after having to bottle feed kid goats because their mom couldn’t care for them...

Things haven’t changed much in 30+ years ago.

Our oldest kid was approaching graduation and his SAT’s could get him into basically any school. 4 corporate moves and a high level con job left us with just our salaries and my bonus.

So we went to a parent college finance evening program. As we were leaving a friend of my wife leaving, and her friend was furious.

My wife asked her what was wrong and she replied in her Navy color which scarred most of the families there. She said to forget the program and take out a second on our home.

As she was leaving she handed me her work sheet and left.

In bout 10 seconds, I saw that the Navy mouth and her husband had the basically the same income as my wife and I did , and they qualified for zippo.

I remained standing and the moderator asked me to sit down. To that I said, some basic math ?’s.

Then, I held up the work sheet from the Navy mouth, and I said that our basic family income was equal to theirs and the mortgage etc was the same. He asked to see it, and said, “Yes I remember her and the worksheet.”

Then, I asked if my wife and I had basically the same income and outgo, what would we get. He hemmed and hauled, and said nothing. Then, you need to take out a second..

At that point my wife stood up and said good bye and that we going home to split a cheap bottle wine.

As we were leaving another friend yelled and asked what our gross/income was. When I told him, he and his whole row stood up and started to leave. Over 50% left then and more as each calculation was entered.
