McLean’s transition team envisions Boise as the next Portland, San Francisco

Boise Mayor Lauren McLean is looking to mold the city of Boise from a sleepy capital to a regional hub of art, entertainment, commerce, and, apparently, communism.

The details are in a report, “A more equitable city for everyone.” The document, released by the mayor’s office in April, flew under the radar as Boiseans dealt with the Coronavirus-induced chaos. On Friday, the Boise Guardian wrote about the report and deemed the document as “worthy of discussion.”

Unfortunately for taxpayers and small business owners and ultimately customers, who would bear the brunt, McLean paints the picture of a Boise that looks something like Portland, Seattle, or San Francisco after she’s done with it.

Her plan calls for the Boise government to immediately address housing hardships, caused by the political response to the Coronavirus pandemic, by sticking it to landlords.

Her report highlights, among others, two steps to take now:

Prohibit any evictions during the Stay-Home Order time period, and,

Cancellation of rent and mortgages for all in Boise during the Stay-Home order.

The document doesn’t outline how that would occur or who would pay the bill for the cancelled rents and mortgages. Interestingly, the report does not suggest canceling property taxes during this period.

Isn’t Boise already getting that way?

I guess Omaha and Cheyenne were far too boring.

How did Boise elect a radical democrat activist as mayor?

She’s a mayor, not a dictator

My Uncle Bill, a retired USAF Colonel and aviator in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam settled in Boise. When I was a kid he used to call my dad to bust his stones about living in communist NJ while he was free in God's country, Boise.

Turns out that in the end my dad is having the last laugh. Welcome to the gulag, comrade. If you won't come to the gulag it will come to you eventually as long as lefties exist.

Looks like democrats are well on their way to fouling another nest.
Pity.

This is what happens when coastal liberals flee the messes created by liberals in their “home” states. I lived in Boise in the 80s and it was clear a huge migration of mainly Californians was underway. It’s metastasized since. It was still a conservative state then but the old saying is true: Demographics determines destiny. Look out Texas and other red states!

Because it’s already flooded with California tech refugees. One of the fastest growing places in the country.

Used to be a nice city until they brought that semiconductor crowd in.

I was born in Boise in the mid-1950s (as was my Mom in 1917; her Dad came as a farmer from Iowa/Missouri in 1902 and kept having to go back for wives as they died off in flu epidemics; my grandmother, his 3rd, was too stubborn to die until age 97). I went to Boise State and lived there until 1979 and still visit. It was always more “liberal” than most of the rest of Idaho (not a hard thing to do) but it has grown so much with transplants. Many folks there have always been a little full of themselves; I doubt it will grow enough to be “the next Portland or San Francisco”.

I was stationed at Mtn. Home AFB in Mtn. Home Idaho from 1979-81, and was proud to be part of the ABC (Anybody But Church) movement that ousted Liberal and anti-Military Senator Frank Church.

Boise has always been the Austin of Idaho.

Damn. Just leave Idaho alone. It’s a pleasant, mostly rural and largely unknown backwater and we like it that way.

Horrible.

Hopefully Boise rejects it.

My uncle left New York when he was 18 to go study at the U of I. That was in 1938. He married a wonderful Idaho woman and settled in Twin Falls after the war and finishing his doctor residency in Nebraska. He brought my dad to the U of I and he also married a wonderful Idaho woman in 1947, but Dad took her back to New York State and Pennsylvania. I visited Idaho many times on family trips growing up, so we just bought a retirement home in the panhandle only a mile from where my Mom’s folks retired in 1965. Now our middle daughter is thinking about leaving crowded Denver for North Idaho!

Not completely. Although the drivers are getting worse.

Note to Californians in Idaho: many motorists are legally armed, so be nice to each other out there on the roads.
