House cancels planned Thursday vote on FISA
The Hill ^ | 28 May 2020 | BY JORDAIN CARNEY AND CHRIS MILLS RODRIGO

Posted on 05/28/2020 7:00:09 AM PDT by RandFan

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said on Thursday that he is cancelling a vote on a bill to reauthorize three intelligence programs, marking the second day in a row that the legislation has been punted.

"At the request of the Speaker of the House, I am withdrawing consideration of the FISA Act," Hoyer said in a statement.

He also appeared to acknowledge that the bill would not have enough support to pass, noting that Republicans who previously supported it were now expected to oppose it.

"The two-thirds of the Republican Party that voted for the bill in March have indicated they are going to vote against it now. I am told they are doing so at the request of the president. I believe this to be against the security interest of the United States and the safety of the American people," he said.

The decision comes only hours after Hoyer's office initially listed the bill as expected to get a vote on Thursday.

OK this thing is dead now!

I'm going to make my first donation of $50 to FR as PROMISED ...

The Bill has been killed by President Trump.

Time to celebrate :)

President Trump should announce he intends to veto any bill passed by the house by proxy voting Ashe considers them unconstitutional.

Would this have happened under anyone but Trumpus Rex?

Send your money to his campaign. We need every dollar in that account.

Nothing less than Western Civilization depends on it.

It’s only mostly dead.

You think that it will survive? It would take a miracle.

This Democrat dope is 100% correct about this.

There was always something particularly nauseating about seeing Devin Nunes running around on Fox News and other cable news programs complaining about FISA surveillance abuses on the Sunday talk shows ... then going to Washington on Monday morning and publicly supporting every FISA re-authorization bill.

I still am impressed DrudgeReport still lists Free Republic in a permanent link.

We know Rush and Mark Levin and others read Free Republic. Rush has even called out posters (positively) on his show.

There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive.

Do you think the Deep State will bide their time to round up the necessary votes?

It’s possible but I dont think they will waste more time on this. Libs ware not happy that bought and paid for Dems were pushing this. They dont want to vote on it before an election..

So you believe that not renewing FISA spying on Americans “to be against the security interest of the United States and the safety of the American people”?

I have news for you, governments in the modern world have killed more of their own citizens than foreign invaders have. I personally fear my own government more than that of any foreign government.

“The two-thirds of the Republican Party that voted for the bill in March have indicated they are going to vote against it now. “

Folks need to let that sink in for a while. More Democrats opposed the bill than Republicans. There were 156 who voted no.

Because Republicans will begin to posture and preen about stopping this horrible affront to liberty.

Yet when they thought nobody was looking they were big supporters of the bill and the state security apparatus.

AND THEY STILL ARE.

Announce that and there would be a run on HCQ/Zinc like never seen before.
