That was 1985 and the people in the house were members of MOVE, an anarchist / animal rights revolutionary cult group that had, years before in ‘78, killed a police officer during a firefight over being evicted. Nine were convicted in the killing of the cop and received a 100 yrs each; not sure if they are still serving time or appealed, etc. They believed in communal living and were against technology [except guns, of course] and as I recall it was probably their habit of living in squalor with animals, and blasting the neighbors at all hours with recorded communist screeds at full volume, that led to complaints that brought out police.
The year was 1985 - not the 1960s.
And, the mayor was a Black Democrat.

I wonder if being shut in for so long has made people more susceptible to mob action as an excuse to do something, together, just to have social contact.
This attack on the police office was well planned, well funded and well executed. Here is why. Spontaneous protestors do not just happen to have the tools necessary to cut the gas line to the precinct headquarters building. They had to plan and prepare in advance for this to happen. One news report from a local tv crew stated that their helicopter had to cease filming over the precinct building because laser beams were being directed at the pilot. We all know that mere protestors do not just happen to have lasers in their pockets. Now, the well equipped and well trained protestors did not loot their equipment from the Target store the night before. The money to purchase this equipment came from someone with a master plan to destroy our country.
Yep, I will be accused of falsely presenting right wing conspiracy theories while the left wing terrorist are destroying an American city.

I am suspicious of a cop who has allegedly been let off repeatedly for excessive force, etc., in a highly politicized department. Democrats never let conservatives or regular people off easy but they do protect ‘their own’ without fail. Sounds like a Robert Creamer type of guy, useful, in an election year in which the Democrats desperately need to solidify and motivate the black vote... and the radical Dems most of all need a win.
Where were these people when the Australian woman was murdered by the Somali-born cop?
Same place they were when the muslim cops killed a dad and his young son in a pickup truck. No where to be found.
