A black firefighter who invested his life savings into opening up a sports bar in Minneapolis was reduced to tears after looters destroyed his life’s work.
Korboi Balla originally planned to open his bar in March, but those plans had to be put on hold due to the coronavirus crisis. Balla had been gearing up to finally open his bar after Minnesota gave the go-ahead for restaurants to begin reopening on June 1.
But by Friday morning, Balla’s bar was little more than a pile of bricks after protests of the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died in Minneapolis police custody on Monday, led to widespread rioting and looting in the city.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do,” Korboi Balla told CBS News on Thursday morning while holding back tears. “It hurts, man. It’s not fair, it’s not right. We’ve been working so hard for this place. It’s not just for me, it’s for my family.”

“As we were standing in front of the restaurant, people were in the back trying to steal the safe!” Balla’s wife, Twyana Balla, wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday. “This just happened an hour ago in broad daylight!”
Twyana Balla added in the post that she and her husband do not have insurance for their business.

I’m sorry for their loss, but how do you run a bar without proof of insurance?
He opened a bar? In Minneapolis? Without insurance?
He chose poorly.
Title implies a white bar owner would have totally deserved it or been a much less sympathetic loss? How is that not racist.

But I would check this out very carefully before I donated to any cause. Scammers are everywhere.

Be safe freepers. I’m seeing lots of calls for the violence to move into the suburbs tonight. The calls are really spreading on social media.
I think that is because the looters were black and many of the arsonists were white anarchists. The white anarchists are on the rioting learning curve and are equal opportunity arsonists. They still have to learn affirmative action in the arson business and restrict their activities to non black owned businesses
If they don’t have insurance for their business, they don’t have much of a business.
A “safe” isn’t insurance.
Owning a bar in Minneapolis without insurance?
A special kind of stupid and probably illegal.
If you can afford it, you can get coverage for almost anything. But I’d’ve thought that minimal coverage of some kind would be required in order to run a bar. Or to at least get a loan.
They did not have insurance the business was just set to open on June 1st!! I think the building was leased SO the insurance for the business wasn’t activated as of yet!!
