Cracking Down on Misfits’ Crime Sprees and Big Tech
American Thinker ^ | May 31, 2020 | Clarice Feldman

I don’t know how many people today still read Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer, but if you are puzzled by the breakout this week of rioting and mayhem (at last count in 17 cities) you’d do well to make yourself familiar with this incredibly well-reasoned text on mass movements. Why are the streets regularly filled with mostly pasty looking stoners pelting stones and bricks, destroying businesses in the poorest urban areas and of even attacking law enforcement on thinnest of pretexts? Partly, I suppose it’s because the shutdown kept them isolated for so long, bored and out of work, but Hoffer’s observation seems to me to best fit: “The permanent misfits can find salvation only in a complete separation from the self; and they usually find it by losing themselves in the compact collectivity of a mass movement.”

Much of the looting -- as far as I could tell from the online videos shot in Minneapolis -- has been from neighborhood black thugs, but not all of it by any means: The riots that accompanied the looting there and elsewhere significantly involve white men and women with a decided stoner look about them. Reports are that many of these rioters are, in fact, being bussed in from elsewhere. The mayor of St. Paul said every person arrested was from out of town. The President tweeted that 80% of all the rioters in Minnesota were outsiders and reminded readers that federal law made crossing state lines to engage in violence a federal offense that would be prosecuted and punished. The attorney general was clear that it would be.

Asahara, who is partially blind, started the cult in the 1980s. Drawing on elements of Christian, Buddhist and Hindu teaching, he declared himself the savior of the world, with supernatural powers. He said the end of the world was near and only his followers would be spared. At its height, his cult was estimated to have around 40,000 followers in Japan and Russia, and was notorious for attracting wealthy and educated recruits.

The President was depending on information from the local officials regarding the rioters being from out of town. The local officials have walked back their statements.

NEW: Hennepin County jail logs from Friday night show 45 people were arrested in connection to the unrest in Minneapolis.

38 of them have a Minnesota address.
6 of them have an out-of-state address.

Though I don’t doubt there were some out of town agitators, there have been plenty of reports of such. But plenty of locals eager to jump in.

Hoffer’s follow-up work “The Ordeal of Change” explains it even further.

The intellectual (in this case, college-age youth) thinks that, by virtue of his intellect and education, he is naturally entitled to a high position in society, and is frustrated that real life doesn’t work out that way, that the risk-takers and “men of action” have the high positions. He therefore allies himself with any movement that he thinks will tear down this “unjust” social order, and give him his rightful place in the hierarchy.

At this point the causes and sociological analysis no longer matter. Mayhem and anarchy need to cease by any means necessary. All that matters now is stopping this insane madness.

When your enemy is trying to kill you there’s no time to reflect on his motives. You simply do whatever is necessary to terminate the aggression and ultimately survive.

I worked around lots of liberals. You nailed the mindset to a tee! Very astute and perfectly stated.

A corollary to your observation is that you cannot reason with these people. Their sense of entitlement makes them totally immune to facts, logic and the lessons of history.

Out of work(???) most of these people have NEVER worked, nor have their parents, or grandparents etc. The result of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society program.

This is the great error of the Left in this current “coup” attempt. It took 3 years for Trump to close the trap on Obamagate. This is going to go so much faster. But, the funding for those busses is traceable, and it is like a fuse heading back to the sources all of whom are chargeable with felony offenses.

Unlike during Ferguson riots, the President in the midst of a National Emergency wields the most power the executive branch can assume. These riots are clearly a National Security threat requiring the activation of the Military to counter, so you know that the rest of the National Security apparatus is engage with almost unlimited power.

Trump has demonstrated great restraint in the use of this power with respect to the Tin Pot dictator led shutdown of the economy and refusal to re-open in spite of economic devastation and privation of their own citizens.. and I expect in the next week or so we will see the energy that was applied to the beginning of the COVID crisis begin to be applied to these events and the people who are responsible.

Hoffer is one of my go-to references. Another I contemplate is https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/amy-chua/world-on-fire-3/ because it mirrors our experience of many news presentations theses days, even before the local riots. Not a hopeful situation, we’ll need to prepare for a resultant stock market crash in response to the violence, Did Soros and the DNC short the market before unleashing the mob?

Many are outside of the system for sure.. but they live on food from food pantries and this has dried up. But, also very often some of their family members work and sacrifice to help.

Don’t live in the narratives that left sets up. Before this COVID crap, hope was growing in the Black community. This is all about ending that.

This was all planned back in the 60’s but they couldn’t get it to work. The ability to suspend the Constitution and force millions out of work by using a Pandemic and the Quarantine power to effectuate this crisis shows some evidence of pre-planning. Which is why HCQ had to be demonized because a cheap pill could F#$# up their whole scheme. The Face Masks being required while this is dying out.. is all about maintaining the fear and making people OBEY.. Remember those posters of a few years ago?

This community both obeys and doesn’t because so much less to lose.. they are used as a cudgel to divide us and make us not see our real enemies.
