Lawmakers and religious leaders voiced outrage at President Trump after police used tear gas and flash bangs against peaceful protesters outside the White House to clear the crowd for Trump to do a photo-op at St. John's church.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Trump is "ripping" the country apart.
"Tear-gassing peaceful protesters without provocation so that the president could pose for photos outside a church dishonors every value that faith teaches us,” Pelosi and Schumer said. "The President’s continued fanning of the flames of discord, bigotry and violence is cowardly, weak and dangerous."
Father James Martin, a prominent Jesuit priest and author, said, "Using the Bible as a prop while talking about sending in the military, bragging about how your country is the greatest in the world, and publicly mocking people on a daily basis, is pretty much the opposite of all Jesus stood for."
He added, "Let me be clear. This is revolting. God is not a plaything."
Rabbi Jack Moline, president of Interfaith Alliance, said, "Seeing President Trump stand in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church holding a Bible in response to calls for racial justice — right after using military force to clear peaceful protesters out of the area - is one of the most flagrant misuses of religion I have ever seen. This only underscores the president's complete lack of compassion for Black Americans."
The fierce reaction came after Park Police and National Guard troops began using tear gas and flash bangs against protesters demonstrating peacefully next to the White House, sending the crowd running in all directions.
It became clear that the crowd was dispersed because he and other White House officials walked to St. John’s Church across the street where Trump took photos, holding a Bible.

This headline should be that Liberal Lawmakers and Liberal religious leaders voiced outrage. It is liberals who hate Trump anyway who are outraged by his actions.
It seems that there is more outrage being expressed by some people at Trump, than is being expressed about rioting. Schumer and Pelosi are angrier at Trump than any public expression I have heard from them about rioting.
Where is condemnation about the rioting? That should be much louder and more prominent than something Trump said or did.
So Nancy’ already crawled out to tell us what a devout Catholic she is and how outraged she is?

I guess “all” except firefighters and the President.
Concerning the headline, I cannot recall similar outrage when President Clinton was photographed waving a Bible following his photo opportunities at Washington, D.C., churches, usually coinciding with his adulterous scandals.

If you have time to mess over the Bible Trump held..
You have way too much time and would rather cause trouble than getting along with your fellow man..
