On May 13, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that 31,000 state employees will be laid off for two days per pay period [one day a week], starting May 27 and running through July 25. This arrangement takes advantage of a federal program known as Work Share to reduce costs in the face of huge revenue shortfalls caused by the COVID-19 epidemic and lockdown.

I don’t see how this is factually correct as that is not how unemployment works.
Being laid off is different than being given two days off per pay period. That is merely a slight reduction in hours. you still have your job and all the benefits.
That is not considered a layoff by any stretch of the imagination.
I have learned to not believe everything I read on the internet.

my daughter is furloughed from disney Disney is a major employer so when they have an employee who can apply for unemployment, all the person has to do is go online and make a few entries . Employers like disney are already linked into the system with the employer info already a part of the date base, because they have frequent contact with EDD,

Michigan announces 31,000 employees to take 2 unpaid days off every pay period until July 25May 13, 2020
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is announcing more than 31,000 state employees will take two unpaid days off every pay period for the next three months as the state fights the COVID-19 crisis and a dramatic budget shortfall.
According to a press release from the state, Michigan will take two temporary layoff days per period starting on Sunday, May 17th and going until July 25th to address the state's budget shortfall as it responds to COVID-19.
According to the state, that will save Michigan $80 million.
Michigan is participating in the federal Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) Work Share program. According to Gov. Whitmer, this will allow employees to keep working and keep their insurance.
As we continue to combat COVID-19, its clear that were facing unprecedented challenges that will lead to serious budget implications for the state of Michigan, said Governor Whitmer. Utilizing this federal program keeps state employees working so they can continue to provide critical services to Michiganders and protects their paychecks so they can continue to support their families.
Under the program, state employees can work reduced hours while employees collect partial unemployment benefits to make up a portion of the wages.
Over 31,000 state employees will be impacted.

I asked about this when she first announced the 1 day a week layoffs.
Several posters on here said no way.
But I had a really bad feeling - the Gov employees NEVER take it in the shorts like the rest of us.
Looks like I was right!

This is happening here in Oregon as well with School teachers and everything.

I've also heard that Michigan's unemployment insurance program software has imploded, and if you have a problem, you're getting the finger from the state.
Even if you call your state representative.
