HOUSTON, Texas -- The chief of Houston police had some direct words for President Donald Trump who threatened to deploy the U.S. military to American cities if governors don't toughen up and quell violent protests.
It's his latest warning amid violent protests after George Floyd's death in Minneapolis police custody.
"You've got to arrest people, you have to track people, you have to put them in jail for 10 years and you'll never see this stuff again," said Trump. "We're doing it in Washington, D.C. We're going to do something that people haven't seen before."
During an interview with CNN Monday night, Chief Art Acevedo responded to those statements.
"Let me just say this to the President of the United States on behalf of the police chiefs in this country, please, if you don't have something constructive to say, keep your mouth shut," Acevedo said. "Because you're putting men and women in their early 20s at risk. Its not about dominating, it's about winning hearts and minds."
"We don't want people to confuse kindness with weakness, but we don't want ignorance to ruin what we have here in Houston," Acevedo continued. "It's time to be presidential, not like you're on The Apprentice. This is not Hollywood. This is real life, and real lives are at risk."
You can watch Acevedo's full interview with CNN in the video above.
Acevedo came from Austin after he screwed that city up. Prior to Austin he was in California screwing things up. He is a big time lefty.
Somebody famous once said “If you grab them by the balls their hearts and minds will follow”.

By “stupid questions” I assume you mean questions not approved by Democrats. ?
I don’t think it’s working so well either.
Trump is correct to suggest using the military, which is his ultimate option for bringing order and law back to America...by any means necessary.
“it’s about winning hearts and minds.”
I seem to recall a similar line in Full Metal Jacket.
“Search and destroy” will now be “Sweep and clear”.
Saw this vid on tucker the other night this guy is a first class scumbag and an enemy
The police chief also received prominent mention on Tucker Carlson Monday night with his speech about how “my people built this country”. He shouldn’t be guarding a 7-11 much less running a police force.
:: Chief, I am sure that President knows that real lives are at risk... ::
Real lives were taken when Acevedo’s (D-HOUSTON) party apparatchiks mowed down those people in Las Vegas.
Trump knows this too.
Sure, whatever you say pal. So, what if the murderers, thieves, vandals, thugs, and arsonists aren't much for conversation?
Houston just moved closer to #1 on the “Military Insert” list. Altho, I think it will be done in one fell-swoop, nationwide.
big time gun grabber too..plus hes gonna give georgie a police escort for the funeral...
Winning hearts and minds?
Houston you choose very poorly.
We saw how well that worked out with Vietnam. This assumes that the challenge lies in convincing the ordinary people of the goodness of your intentions, but the reality is that they are powerless and, now as in Vietnam, are under the control of a small, vicious band of Marxist fanatics who dont actually have any hearts or minds.
Its going to be OK bagster!
Every crappy word out of this thugs mouth is just making Trump supporters and new Trump supporters ( Democrats, liberals who have been stomped on and and then abandoned by their so called leaders..) ..
...have been affirmed that this guy doesnt speak for them.
They want help.
They are being destroyed
They want what the President is saying!!!!!
I dont speak Spanish but his name is close to the Italian word for a hole. It fits.
That dude is a true prophet.
What a dumbass.
Its not about dominating, it’s about winning hearts and minds.”
That exact approach was taken during the war in Vietnam. How did that work out?
Yeah - “winning hearts and minds by allowing the criminals free rein...they’ll laugh at the chump, thank him and ramp it up.
