Tom Cotton: Send In the Troops
NYT ^ | 06 03 2020 | Tom Cotton

Posted on 06/03/2020 7:17:44 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

This week, rioters have plunged many American cities into anarchy, recalling the widespread violence of the 1960s.

New York City suffered the worst of the riots Monday night, as Mayor Bill de Blasio stood by while Midtown Manhattan descended into lawlessness. Bands of looters roved the streets, smashing and emptying hundreds of businesses. Some even drove exotic cars; the riots were carnivals for the thrill-seeking rich as well as other criminal elements.

Outnumbered police officers, encumbered by feckless politicians, bore the brunt of the violence. In New York State, rioters ran over officers with cars on at least three occasions. In Las Vegas, an officer is in “grave” condition after being shot in the head by a rioter. In St. Louis, four police officers were shot as they attempted to disperse a mob throwing bricks and dumping gasoline; in a separate incident, a 77-year-old retired police captain was shot to death as he tried to stop looters from ransacking a pawnshop. This is “somebody’s granddaddy,” a bystander screamed at the scene.

Some elites have excused this orgy of violence in the spirit of radical chic, calling it an understandable response to the wrongful death of George Floyd. Those excuses are built on a revolting moral equivalence of rioters and looters to peaceful, law-abiding protesters. A majority who seek to protest peacefully shouldn’t be confused with bands of miscreants.

It’s clear where the NYT stands. I think they ran Cotton’s column just so they could trash it. New York likes to trash a lot of things.

Backlash meaning idiots on TWITTER of course ALWAYS TWITTER used as the basis for almost every thread here and almost every news story. A social media platform where most conservatives are banned and their speech is shut down is used as some barometer of what our country is thinking.

Who cares if a handful of communist got mad at the NYT for publishing the OPINION piece.

The left HATE any opinion that is not on their side.
Totalitarians.

Most people don’t know that around 10% of all twitter users make 80% of all the posts out there. It’s a small group of mainly loyal Leftists that hashtag everything out and are prolific posters. Throw in the foreign bots and it’s even less that somehow shapes news movements

Have the NYT offices been trashed, burned... Probably not. Thinking their tune would change if their offices and high security apartment buildings were hit.

President Trump needs to federalize the National Guard. But using them is all about timing. As long as the protests remain peaceful they need to be left alone. Once violence happens the guard needs to come in and close things down. Eventually those who are just in it for the thrill and peaceful will get tired and leave. Popular support in the area must drop before the guard can be used

They don’t want people to see that a large percentage of our military are not white. It is hard enough for them to see how many police officers are not white. It throws the entire argument that blacks are universally victimized by racist white people out the window.

Not yet. So far, the Rats are only burning their own Rat areas. These areas are not in fact American areas. Those people left the United States in spirit decades ago.

We owe New York City nothing. Same with Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, etc. These are Democrat areas that created these hellish conditions and now these same Democrats seek to make political hay by burning down their own mess. Sometimes you just let it burn, man.

I hope they burn Beverley Hills to the ground. Maybe they'll be stupid enough to leave their Rat lairs and come for us in Flyover, but I doubt it. If they do we'll shoot them like the varmints they are.

Look at how beautifully this is shaping up. Cuomo vs. De Blasio is a great start. The rats will tear each other apart. Let's let it happen.

Don't intervene yet. The enemy is shelling his own positions. Don't interfere.

DO NOT send in the troops. It will be the end of Trump for sure. He cannot fall for this setup to bail out Rat politicians.
Let them drown in their sea of fire.

I agree. If Mayors and Governors sign a paper asking for federal troops, and specifically authorizing deadly force if an on site military officer deems it necessary, then the way is clear. But they won’t do that. So any use of troops is a trap for the President.

If we still have elections by 2024, I’m feeling better and better about Cotton for President in 2024.

Not all the people from Arkansas are crooks and communists.

Only use troops in D.C., leave the Democratic urban rioters and protesters to the states or cities. Let them “stew in their own juices”.

These riots aren’t going to last months or even weeks, just let them burn out from a lack of energy.

Riots are a short term emotional fix for hammerheads, but most people will tire of their antics, eventually.
