I believe it was Hitler or Mussolini who in their last days stated that Fascism would one day come back under the guise of anti-fascism. I read that somewhere along the way but cannot find the exact quote.

That has also been falsely attributed to Churchill and Huey Long.

Going back to 1936, Norman Thomas, a Presbyterian minister who ran for president six times as a Socialist Party of America candidate, was once reported by the Cincinnati Inquirer as saying this:
“Fascism is coming in the United States most probably, but it will not come under that name.”
Other variations on that, although claiming that fascism would be disguised as “Americanism”, date from the same decade.
