I think they’d be in danger if the local Starbucks ran out of those $7 marginal cheesecakes, or the local grocery ran out of diet Tab.

I don’t think these people are capable of living full and rich lives. They seem to be acting more like 12-year-old kids.

or the local grocery ran out of diet Tab.

You are likely a Pepsi drinker, so you may not know that most grocery stores no longer stock Tab, it being almost entirely displaced by Diet Coke and Coke Zero Sugar. Since all Tab is "diet Tab", the term is redundant.

Besides, I think the NYT crowd is more likely to go with Coconut Water, Yerba Mate or Gourmet Iced Coffee these days.

By the way, notwithstanding Wikipedia's article, Pepsi brand Patio is STILL available. I have spotted it in the wild at Bojangle's Chicken in both North Carolina and Georgia ... strawberry flavor. No luck finding Teem, however. That may be completely gone. On second thought, Peggy Noonan is old enough that she might still hunt down Tab, but she writes for the Wall Street Journal.
