(I wrote this essay in 2012 for Western Rifle Shooters Association . .. Im reposting it here in American Partisan on May 31, 2020, during the George Floyd riots, without revision.)
In response to recent articles in mainstream military journals discussing the use of the U.S. Army to quell insurrections on American soil, I offer an alternate vision of the future. Instead of a small town. . . as the flash point, picture instead a score of U.S. cities in the thrall of riots. . . New Yorkers can imagine the 1977 blackout looting or the 1991 Crown Heights disturbance. In fact, the proximate spark of the next round of major riots in America could be any from a long list . ..
We have seen them all before, and shall see them all again . . . But the next time we are visited by widespread, large-scale urban riots, a dangerous new escalation may be triggered by a fresh vulnerability: Its estimated that the average American home has less than two weeks of food on hand. . . What if a cascading economic crisis, even a temporary one, leads to millions of EBT (electronic benefit transfer) cards flashing nothing but ERROR? This could also be the result of deliberate sabotage by hackers, or other technical system failures. Alternatively, . . . The government can order the supermarkets to honor the cards, and it can even set price controls, but historys verdict is clear: If suppliers are paid only with worthless scrip or blinking digits, the food will stop.
STEP ONE: FLASH MOB LOOTING
In my scenario, the initial riots begin spontaneously across affected urban areas, as SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program) and other government welfare recipients learn that their EBT cards no longer function. . . .

Omigosh. I recall reading the article. Didn’t scoff at it, either.
Knew it could happen, only too easily.
I think all cities over 100,000 population should defund their police and sit back and let the games begin.
Practice how to set up your pickup bed.
Work the crowd from outside in ;-)

lol.
Low power EMP with say 1/4 mile effective radius. Drop it in the middle of the riot. Let see how well the riot organizers do when everyone involved suddenly does not have a working cell phone.

Thank you.

Think about the elderly or disabled that can’t defend themselves from the monsters. I understand what you’re saying though.
I wonder if Matt can forecast the weather as well as he is able to forecast the societal, cultural and political landscape of the late, formerly great Republic known as Merika?
Do we even have such a device? A 20-block version was featured in the series "24", and a smaller version in "Oceans Eleven," but I always wondered if it existed at all.

No need for that. The FBI has access to high quality jammers that will block everything except their gear.
I was in an Academy Sporting Goods store today near Charlotte, NC. They definitely need more guns and ammo because they were running pretty low on inventory.
On twitter, the protestors will post a photo of the police with a large loud speaker which they use to announce the curfew and other orders.
The protestors write stuff like: “Seattle Pigs deploying LARP RIGHT NOW!!! Put in ear protection for sonic boom!! First aid for burst ear drums at corner of 11th and Pine!”
