I don’t know, peer pressure can be pretty powerful. Good people can be shamed out of their honest opinions, not so much by physical presence as by the fearsome and pervasive power of shunning and snubbing publicly the non-conformist is subjected to.

“Go along to get along” is a time-honored method of gaining this conformity, but when the standard being conformed to is in and of itself a negation of humanity, then once again good succumbs to evil.
