Rev. Bill Owens: ‘Civil Rights Movement Hijacked by Manipulative Politicians’

Rev. Bill Owens, president of the Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP), says racial tensions have not improved in America because the true civil rights movement has been “hijacked” by politicians who are using black Americans as “a pathway to power.”

In comments to Breitbart News on the violent riots in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of police in Minneapolis, Owens and his wife, Dr. Deborah Owens, said politicians “of all races” are still using black issues to gain power.

“I remember being a college student and saying, ‘If only we had a black mayor, (or black congressman or governor), things would be different,’” Owens, the author of A Dream Derailed, said. “Decades later, we’ve seen black men and women at all levels of power — even a black president — but racial tensions haven’t improved.”

He is absolutely correct. If we would stop being white churches and black churches and come together as Christians no one could use we saints against the other. Where I grew up there were almost no black people but many Hispanic people. As a child I always wondered why we had different churches. It was a language barrier but everyone would soon learn each other’s language.
A child in Sunday School once ask me what color Jesus was. I told him Jesus was light and when any one looked at Jesus He was the same color as they were. We are reflected in Him. Life should be lived in the Light. I in Him and He in me.

People will come together when they’re ready. And should NOT until that time.

Churches don’t turn people away because of color... not that I’ve heard of in the past 50 years. So if someone wants to go to a black or white church it’s their choice.

Besides, democrats would pit races against each other under any circumstances... that’s how they keep their black base propping up white liberal ‘elites’...

I know the gentleman means well but this excerpt betrays a profound lack of understanding.
Obama didn't merely fail to improve relations between ethnic groups; he worsened them to a breathtaking degree. He was a wrecking ball to social cohesiveness. He directed his followers to "get in their face, pull out guns" and the like. Essentially, pick at the scabs of past wounds; browbeat others into acquiescing to his worldview.

Adopting a neutral stance over Obama is simply to manifest a misunderstanding of what America experienced under his administration. The man is not merely a radical but a deadly enemy of this nation.

I would say the country was horrified by the false narrative of Floyd arrest.

Put out by the media.

If the narrative would have been violent felon, high on drugs dies while resisting police.

I think the country would have seen it different.

Someone should show him this

The democrat controlled media dilberately miss portrayed Floyd as an innocent black who was being forceably restrained because he was black. He was arrested for passing a counterfeit $20 dollar bill .When actually he was resisting arrest and was a threat if not secured by not mentioning his size or reporting that Floyd was removed from a squad car because he was acting up under the influence of drugs and also later was discovered to have COVID 19. Which suggests his physical condition may have led to his death which the media turned into a murder change and a charge of serious abuse by police because of police efforts that were tried to get him who under control Check out

The results of politically induced miss reporting used earlier during and after the post Zimmmerman trial. Led to black gangs attacking non blacks found innocently traversing black neighborhoods and to a score of murders or life changing injuries and later attacks of theft and vandalism on local businesses as well as attacks and murders of police officers during that period
