That’s simplistic - there have been lost of native and non-native African empires -
Native: the various Egyptian, Ethiopian, Ghana, Malian etc. empires
Non-Native: the Omanis had a successful empire in Zanzibar for centuries. The Portuguese had Cabo Verde, Angola and Mozambique for 400+ years. The British and French moved into Africa in the late 1800s and would have continued if not for world war one and two
