The generals are afraid that if troops are called on to contain, repel, or shoot rioters, the military will have taken sides in a domestic race conflict. This happened in the 1960s when troops were deployed against race riots in the inner cities. This set off years of racial conflict in the ranks, with sabotage, insubordination, and attacks on officers in the field in Vietnam. It took a generation to restore order, morale, and unit effectiveness in the US military.

Why would Trump put up with his instructions to the military being disobeyed? Trump put AG Bill Barr in charge and he came up with a better option by scrounging up enough trained federal law enforcement officers to protect federal buildings and law and order in DC. And, even more than the generals, Trump does not want to break the US military by involving it in domestic race turmoil.

Who says Trump has to sign off on orders issued from the Pentagon. Almost every single decision is made at the Pentagon.

This kind of stuff worries me than an enemy (other than the regular Democrat enemies and NWO enemies) could take advantage of this Democrat-fueled crisis to strike at America, 9/11-style.

Captain Obvious, I know.

Keep your powder dry, FRiends. Also a Captain Obvious there.

There are numerous good sources for this:

They could not have done this without Trump’s consent. What this really is is street theater. Trump is playing the bad cop, scaring everyone with his aggressiveness and threats to unleash deadly force. The Pentagon is the good cop, holding the bad cop at bay just barely, and asking everyone to please calm down so they can restrain bad cop. And it’s a good act.

Either that, or they have Trump locked up in the basement and this is a coup d’etat.

The President delegated control of the troops he brought into D.C. to the Army Secretary. I would imagine that’s so he can’t be accused of making the decisions. What was interesting was that the FLNG troops in D.C. were deputized as temporary U.S. Marshals.

I am suspicious as well. The pentagon is a procurement agency, not an operational command.

What other choice does President Trump have without the support of his own party?

The military brass has 3 1/2 track record of non support of POTUS. The generals don’t want to be seen publicly supporting President Trump. Even worse they have aided and abetted the ongoing coup against POTUS. Witness the still excellent military career prospects of coupist Vindmand and the Corona boat captain. The military is not with the POTUS and the citizens. That much should be clear by now.

It sure looks likes coup to me. The JCS is running the DOD without Constitutional civilian control. They ran out the excellent acting Navy secretary for too strongly supporting POTUS. Most likely picked lobbyist Esper for SecDef. Still flying top cover for coupist Vindman and the leaking insubordinate Corona boat captain. Etc., etc

If it quacks like a duck...

Putting them under DOJ control? Very interesting indeed. Now why would the Trump admin do that?

Trump just tweeted that he gave the order and they can be reactivated if needed.

I’m sure the families are fine with that Mike as you use their sons and daughters as cannon fodder if the SHTF again.

Just like Afghanistan.

Your point is substantially true but does not suffice as a full explanation. Indeed, there are many examples of the US military resisting orders or meddling in politics for the sake of the national interest as they saw it.

For example, in the 1980s, Reagan's immediate national security staff contrived the rickety Iran-Contra arrangement in order to get around the resistance of the US military brass to supporting the Contras in Nicaragua because doing so might lead to a repeat of the Vietnam debacle. Or, as a naval officer friend of mine personally familiar with the episode put it, "The brass was ready to fight a nuclear war with the Soviets but having to put helicopters over the jungle chasing guerillas gave them nightmares."

“There are numerous good sources”

A. GP is not a “good” source: they simply rip off other news articles ... period ...

B. There are NOT “numerous” sources to the fake claims in the Daily Mail, they are the only source: the GP “source” you cited simply repeated the original fake “news” from the Daily Mail (and actually includes the link for the DM article as their source) ... that’s how fake news works: one fake “news” source fakes some news, and then all the other fake “news” sources get to repeat it ad nauseum, which then makes the fake “news” look real because “everybody” is reporting it ...
