Defunding the Police Would be a Suicidal Move

National protests and riots following the incident of the deadly police brutality have featured a common rallying cry: “Defund the police.” Across the country, calls to defund, downsize or abolish police departments are gaining new traction. Jeremiah Ellison, a member of the Minneapolis City Council, announced on Twitter a dismantling of the city Police Department. The New York Times reports that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that he would cut as much as $150 million from a planned increase in the Police Department’s budget. In New York, the Police Department will see a $6 billion budget cut. “Progressive” officials such as Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) have declared the police in their states is “beyond reform.” Leftist observers agree: we must “starve the beast,” because, as The Atlantic suggests, if cops cannot stop killing people, and black people in particular, society needs fewer of them. That is also a central demand of Black Lives Matter that states that “law enforcement doesn’t protect or save our lives.”

Undeniably, the incidents when the police officers react to tense situations with excessive force that sometimes lead to tragic outcomes do occur – but most likely as the result of inadequate training rather than racism. It is clear that when it happens, the matter should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law, and the guilty offenders punished. That is what justice that the rioters demanded actually is.

To listen to the narrative of the systematic racism practiced by the police, however, one would think that most police officers are card-carrying members of the Ku Klux Klan who run around randomly shooting black men to get a kick out of it.

What you have is a Trump trap. If he does nothing and let the city burn he is week and ineffective. If he sends in troops to handle the situation he is a tyrant and loses the trust of the American people.

And so President Trump needs to continue to act behind the scenes rounding up those people organizing and manipulating the situation.

At the same time he must take ownership of the issue. He can not continue to play defense or they will continue to call all the plays.

The issue is racial equality and treatment of minority groups in the United States. One thing to remember and lesson we should have learned from Clinton. Symbolism over substance goes a long way with the voting public.

Re-establish national recognition of 2nd amendment first. Full constitutional carry everywhere.

Then obama’s boys in da hood would be killing each other at 20 times the current rate. Yet they would blame it on Trump.

I don’t know if I can say I disagree with this idea. A lot of conservatives act as if a large police presence is a good thing. I don’t see anything “conservative” about that at all. The defining characteristic of a free, law-abiding society isn’t a major police presence — it’s an armed citizenry.

If the liberal cities want to destroy themselves, I say let them.

When they're finished and lying in ruins, they can use the money they "saved" by defunding the police to rebuild.

Since I don’t live in one or even close to one, I think it would be entertaining to see the ‘Rat Urban Utopias devolve for a couple of years.

It's the rebound they're after.

If they succeed at defunding the police, they bring on a flood of crime that will overwhelm us all. No place will be safe. Eventually, after years of lawlessness, rape, theft, and assault, the sheeple will welcome the brownshirts and the sharia police.

They'll actually clamor to be enslaved.

Nature abhors a vacuum. So if for some reason a police force is disbanded, something else would eventually take its place. Could be the strongest gang in the area. Could be these guys.

I see it as an opportunity for the citizens to straighten out the things that needed to be straightened out. The police are so highly regulated that they can’t hardly do their job. There’s some judges and parole board members that need some attention as well.

“...These idiots are obviously not using their brains...”

They don’t have the intelligence of a piss-ant...maybe even less.
The only thing standing between them and thousands, if not millions, of heavily-armed patriots is the police.

In each scenario, if you think about it....they are say ‘police department’. So you go and dissolve it and dispose of the police, it’s structure, and the effect of the union. What they then have is the county sheriff and his deputies left. A city cannot dispose or rid themselves of the county sheriff because of the state constitutions involved. All states have some wording that a sheriff will exist, and he will have deputies, and the budget will come via the county commission. The deputies having a union? Sheriffs come and go, and their deputies are hired/fired at his whim.

So once the smoke clears, there’s still ‘law’, the sheriffs, and the deputies....along with a county prosecutor, and a county judge. If the city demands something...they have no power, the county commission has the power and authority. If the city asks for more deputies....they will have pay the county commission more, and the Sheriff will hire more deputies.

This chatter is mostly null and void....the law, and people to carry out the law...are still there.

They are self-loathing and suicidal. They want to take the rest of us down with them.

Plan accordingly.

Defundong the police would be an excuse to usher in whatever crazy unconstitutional idea they have in mind. It’s not rocket science, kids...

“Defund the police.”

Sure.

The prog "protesters" apparently have no clue that it is the LEOs that are preventing a LOT of highly trained, highly motivated citizens from resolving the current issues in an expedient manner.
