MS: Man accused of trying to kill two Wheeler residents

BOONEVILLE - A man is recovering in a Memphis hospital after a Good Samaritan shot him as he assaulted a female.

Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar said deputies responded to an altercation in the Wheeler area Tuesday night but were unable to locate the suspect. A resident called 911 around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and said he was near the Wheeler Head Start following the suspect from the night before.

"The caller stayed on the line as best was possible keeping the dispatch posted on the suspect's location and direction of travel as well as his erratic behavior," Tolar said.

When the suspect went to a nearby residence and started assaulting a female, the caller confronted the suspect and shot him twice. Deputies arrived shortly thereafter and incapacitated the suspect. Tolar said the actions likely saved the woman's life.

While waiting for ambulances to arrive, the suspect admitted he had beaten an elderly man nearby in his shop. Deputies responded to that address and found the man clinging to life.

This article needs more information. I just moved away from this area because the crime from Memphis is bleeding towards it at an alarming rate. The Memphians are finding people in the rural West Tennessee and NE Mississippi to be soft targets and home invasions are increasing at an alarming rate. Drug wars in Corinth and murders by the minorities are also increasing.

BIG failure in caliber and/or placement...

Sounds like it was successful.

Stopped the attack, and mostly immobilized the suspect.

The article does not give us any details about placement of the shots.

People have been hit twice by 12.7 (rough equivalent of .50 BMG) in the chest, and been able to continue their attack.

'Pears to me the perp was still a mite frisky when LEOs arrived... '-)

Just sayin, the stop may not have been as effective as one would expect from 2 combat rounds to CoM...

For grins, I'll wager that -- after a typical LE response time -- the 2 X 12.7 target no longer needed further "incapacitation"... '-)

Besides, I was mostly poking fun at the stellar "journalism", anyway...

The officers arrived, demanded the perp show them his hands. He did not comply (was down on the floor), so they shot him with rubber bullets!
